no but really, each gen needs at least 7 years to solidify, end of 2nd gen and beginning of 3rd was around 2012/13 so that means it was at least 2020 before you could claim a new gen. Anything after aespa should only be considered 4th gen. SKZ and BP who many consider the epitome of 3rd gen debuted less than 2 years from each other - concept wise they also share more in common with 3rd gen than with current groups today
4th gen started with Idle and SKZ.
I've hypothesized that 4th gen peaked with Supernova and that we will see something else take over Korean music scene over the next year. Could be 5th gen which will soon come online (Izna, Teddy's NGG, or SM's NGG). Or it could be something different like band music, trot, or this trot idol hybrid concept.

Imagine the ultimate irony: LSRFM are the ones to finally end Supernova's reign of terror when they comeback in three weeks.
I never felt it was about having another Suzy. When companies try to limit their workers like this, it's so the brad remains bigger than the individuals. The individuals become more reliant on the brand for the image, limiting their individual influence outside of the group, which gives the company more control. The company can then exert more power over the idol in the form of money, music, and marketing. The longer an idol stays with the company, the more power the company has over the idol. It's why SM flopped with SNSD during contract negotiations.
You see this with other big entertainment companies like WWE in the past. There's a delicate balance for the company: you want the idols to be more reliant on you, but you also want them to be actually popular to draw fans. If you succeed, you have a Taeyeon situation, and if you fail, you a Blackpink situation.
Of course, idols can always just take their chances and succeed on their own. Something tells me, if Twice was really at one point the NGG (and it wasn't just media play), they should all be popular enough to succeed without JYPE, if they want. Maybe some even surpassing Suzy too.
