Sonemariam, I understand where you're coming from, but I think Yoona's goal as an actor isn't so much to be popular and successful but to grow as an actress. She has consistently said, from the beginning of her career, that her goal with every role is to challenge herself and to improve. She promises her fans that she'll work hard to develop characters that show a different side of her. To that end, she carefully selects scripts and roles that are challenging, that force her to go beyond her comfort zone.

She values and treasures the opportunities to work with and learn from veteran actors and directors. She respects them as her teachers. She could continue to play the same cute roles that translate to higher box-office and viewer ratings, but she doesn't for the simple reason that she would stop growing.

Instead, she chooses complex roles in thought-provoking films and dramas that may not be so popular with the general public, which prefers formulaic scripts with one-dimensional characters to scripts that are intellectually challenging and socially relevant.

Anyone who's been following Yoona's career knows that she's a very bright and serious actor who is approaching acting as a profession, as a career that requires many years of dedicated study. In short, she's not just another pretty face intent on being popular in shallow films and dramas. These actors usually burn out quickly when they're no longer the latest FOTM.

Instead, she's putting in the time to master the craft of acting, and she is doing so humbly, always acknowledging her debt to the older and more experienced actors. This is why so many accomplished professionals in the field respect and like her.

Of course, many of her films and dramas have been and will be successful and popular, but many won't simply because the theme or subject matter is esoteric. But we should always remember that some of the greatest acting occur in films and dramas that aren't wildly popular. If popularity alone were the standard for great acting, then films such as Avengers and Avatar and Star Wars would have the best actors.

The standards for great acting are much higher than popularity, and these are the standards that Yoona is pursuing.

The girls themselves have a lot to do with their success. They're sincere, genuine, and caring. Mako, as the oldest, is a gentle and warm-hearted natural leader. The other senpais in the group are like older sisters to the younger ones. Of course, JYP is the spirit and wisdom that chose them for their character, talent, and ability to bond with others. Their cohesiveness reminds me of SNSD, an SM group but with the same vibes. Their closeness, like real sisters, is a huge part of their appeal and success.
