I can see this happening.
The whole concept of NCT allows for indefinite longevity by infinite and replaceable members. At first I found it a bit fucked up for the members to be so disposable, but if you see it from the standpoint of NCT being a start off point for their careers, it's not that bad. but from a company standpoint, it's pure genius.
- More members means more opportunity for people to follow at least one member.
- NCT U can be a gateway for people only familiar with one unit to explore other units.
- New members can absolutely bring in more fans. I was very curious how Shotaro became ridiculously popular (especially compared to Sungchan, since they debuted at the same time). Then I found out he was known on TikTok and lots of people checked out NCT because of him.
- It's probably a lot cheaper to add in more members than to debut and promote a new group and convince people to check them out. New members will also be constantly surrounded by people who already have lots of experience and can mentor them in real time. They can improve their skills much quicker with that kind of guidance.
- They never have to go on hiatus, no matter how many members take a leave of absence.
- Even after older members go off an do their own thing (solos, acting, etc.), fans of them may be interested in checking out the group they used to be in. I know I've checked out Shinee because of Taemin.
The only disadvantage is trying to understand their concept in the first place. I know I rage quit a couple times before checking them out because it was confusing. Once you get it though, it's not that complicated.
They're basically a collective of idols as opposed to just a regular group with traditional limitations. The more I think about it, the more advantages they have.
I'm very curious to see how far they go with this.
I would argue the point of members being replaceable.
NCT members aren't anymore replaceable than other idols from different groups. That's why they have FIXED groups with FIXED lineups. The brand itself is expandable but not the units themselves. I highly doubt SM will just change 127's members once the older ones start enlisting. They'll just keep adding members and debuting new different units but the fixed ones are as good as regular groups.

How about the fact that Majority of KPOP stans mocked NCT for having too much members and called the group hard to get into and called their music trash/construction music/noise and some are still doing it now and the concept is trash or whatnot,
This year they turned their SUPPOSED weakness into one of the major strengths which people don't like and they do mental gymnastics to again try to categorize them, And for you info, Neozone exceeded 1.4M+ sales, So that's just NCT 127.
Truth is, It's hard for some people to accept NCT is not the same group they used to trash, now they MAKE IT HARD TO DO SO
NCT: have a slow start and relatively small sales for years
Kpop fans: their size is a hindrance. Who the hell would stan a group with that size?
NCT: sell 5 million albums in one year
Kpop fans: it's all because of their size. It's nothing to be proud of

I was listening to this just now

I have been into kpop for over a decade now and at this point I came to the conclusion that only SM groups are worth stanning. Superior vocal talent, superior harmonisations, superior music quality and superior production.

Repeating again for the pressed posters here, NCT is already the best Boy Group
-
They're an SM group, what did you expect other than dumb pre-debut antis?
-
They're already the best group

The whole NCT foreign members vs Korean language series is just gold

We need Taeyong to explain his rap verse in Summer 127 too

Vocals : Taeil, Doyoung, Xiaojun, Haechan, Renjun/Jaehyun
Rap: Mark, Yangyang
Dance : Ten, Taeyong, Jisung, Winwin, Shotaro
@ op Taeil is by far NCT's best vocalist but Haechan has such a pretty and distinct vocal tone and that's why he always gets to sing some of the killer parts and his lines sometimes end up being the most memorable, especially during the bridge (wtf @ his bridge in Simon Says like damn) and the vocally oriented songs. NCT vocal line in general is very solid, not only skill wise but especially uniqueness and variety of tones wise.

I'm rooting for WayV to become bigger in China, it really sucks seeing how their association with kpop is holding them down and limiting their potential.

it's not necessary but one of the biggest kpop marketing gimmicks is that members are shown to be close and bffs, that is why it's fun to speculate whether that's true or not (which we all know that it's not usually true)
Exactly, like it's just a marketing plot and I think everyone should take it with a grain of salt. Of course it's possible for many of them to be really close in real life but as long as their relationship doesn't affect the group's work dynamics (or go as far as bullying) I don't see why fans should obsess over it.
-
This is such a childish and cringey fixation
When will kpop fans normalise group members being friendly colleagues?
As long as they are respectful of each other and have good working dynamics, I don't see why it's necessary to be BFFs.

The similarity stops at the fluffy cheeks. They're both extremely beautiful, gorgeous and charming but in different ways. I wish people would stop these unnecessary comparisons, they only end up getting Ningning dragged for no reason.

YYJ is responsible for SM's old trademark : SMP. Aka Don't don, Rising Sun, Triangle, A Man In Love, MAMA
And he's also responsible for SM's traditional RnB sound: Sorry Sorry Answer, Before U Go, Hot Times, What's Love
And he produced or co-produced some of SM artists biggest hits and/or most iconic songs like SJ's Sorry Sorry, Bonamana, Mr Simple, Superman, Mamacita, Super Girl. EXO's History, SHINee's Lucifer and Ring Ding Dong, SNSD's Genie and I Got A Boy, Tvxq's Keep Your Head Down, Something, Spellbound and Catch Me, NCT's Boss, Regular, Simon Says, Baby Don't Stop and Go.
I still don't like him though -
They're perfect the way they are and the talent average is pretty high, the highest out of most GGs. I hope they won't add any more members.

The background does look familiar!
I guess it's the same room as here?

Especially during the 2nd generation and early 3rd generation. If you watch NCT From Home rearranged version you can see some members practicing there too, so basically this room outlived entire groups
