Why is 2nd gen idol doing much better than 3rd gen idol on 2021 ???

idk but Hyuna, Taeyeon and SHINee are amazing and they deserve it all

Korea isnt really interested in new groups, especially bgs. Hyuna had a long haitus and so did Shinee due to military so the hype is higj for their comebacks

It's been clear from the last few years even before melon reform that public is less interested in idol music these days with only a handful of 3/4g groups like the ones you mentioned doing well . So if it's not one of those then public don't really care anymore. Add the the new system and things are made much harder.

Meanwhile 2g groups were dominating the charts in their time and I guess public had a connection with a lot of them that lasts even to this day. Therefore if/when they make a CB they'll still have a certain amount of people willing to check them out along with groups fans of course.

Are they, though? You listed big 2nd gen comebacks, while we had no major 3rd gen comeback yet. Also you listed 3 soloists, they tend to do better with the GP. We need to wait for BTS, BP, Twice, Red Velvet, MAMAMOO, EXO, (I'm not that good with BGs), etc. comebacks to see 3rd gen doing better on charts.

Honestly 2nd gen idol comebacks are so much more interesting. Take Shinee's comeback, they literally released a song better than most idol debuts this year and 3rd gen releases. Plus the concepts are always better and more polished. Even though Shinees concept is sort of dark it's intresting and not over the top. I love the fact that 2nd gen era is coming back.

Eh? No 3rd Gen group has had a cb yet this year, unless you’re counting folks’ Japanese releases, which isn’t really an apples to apples comparison. Why can’t we just say “yay Shinee for great comeback success?”

I’m honestly so shocked by Shinee’s result. They’re going on 13+ years in the industry but are still competing with 3rd and 4th Gen boy groups. They’re still climbing on Melon 24 hour charts. This is literally INSANE. I’m soooo happy for them. Key mentioned he saw the charts and was crying out of happiness, the boys worked so so so hard on this album, they deserve this so much
