I think the UK was actually one of the later holdouts of Europe when it came to adopting the metric system. And while they are officially on it, they still use the imperial system for quite a few things.

Yeah, if it's just formalizing a standard practice that already exists for documentation, then that's a MUCH easier sell than trying to change the culture around it.
