1 member cannot carry the group

In rare situations it might be possible but I laugh when big groups' akgaes claim their fav is carrying the group.

If big groups mean top 5 group yea it can't be one idol carrying. But top 10/15 there has been multiple example in the past : 4minute and Hyuna carrying the hell out, Miss A and Suzy in the latter part of their career, Zico and Block B etc... When you reach BTS/BP/Twice tier yea it can't be solo but before this status you can get carried pretty heavily.

Big groups can never get big with only one person carrying hard. There’s no example of this

For smaller groups I agree. For some, only one member gets all the sponsorships while more than half the fanbase is their stans. Most of the album sales are because of the popular member.

For big groups even at top 20 level that would be extremely delusional.

Nah, EXO is one of those groups with members that everyone knows, though some less than others (but only a bit). Even lesser known members like the hyung line are well-liked in SoKor.
