  • I would call it an earned privilege. Also it’s not in everything like kpop fans like to pretend. It’s a privilege because of the exposure and the money a big company have. Kpop fans act as if big company idols were treated as royalty in the industry while their poor “real” talented favs were the underdogs.

People also got to consider that the more people to compete for a company the tougher it gets: hence why these people you deem as privileged have earned their place. Whether it was hard work or talent, they managed to get in AND debut. Most big company idols debut after long hard training periods so even if you’re gonna go with some have rich backgrounds, this logic doesn’t apply because the rich take as much time training as the poor in these companies. Not to mention small companies have as much rich trainees. In fact rich kids are even more important to small companies because they can support. Many rich kids can go to small companies, get better positions and treatment than in a big one that isn’t afraid to treat them strictly. This privilege talk has gone to the point people treat small company idols as indie artists lol. Obviously I am not saying small company idols are less talented or don’t work hard but if you’re going to blame privilege of a company then try to go to that company and if you couldn’t handle it don’t blame the ones who managed to and call them out for being privileged.

  • Any group that debuts under the big 3 is privileged, this is not up to debate. The big3 has more money, which means better quality music and MVs. Once a group debuts they instantly get fame, but a group that debuts under another label will not get that type of success in an instant. Look at Aespa, they just debuted and there already brand ambassadors for Givenchy! How is that not screaming privilege? And people will reply "Oh it's because the Givenchy CEO liked them so that's not an arguement" it is a though, because Aespa have privilege from debuting under SM more expensive brands will notice them compared to group that debuted under a smaller label. Yes, that doesn't mean those idols didnt work for what they have now but the company is a big reason for their success. You get special treatment if your in the big3, its not some time of conspiracy theory that needs to be analyzed? The big3 have been in the game for a long time so of course there groups are gonna hit it big once they debut. Just because I say all of this doesn't mean that I am bashing any big3 groups but this can also be used for groups that aren't from the big3, BTS are from a small company and worked hard to get fame, but now they are privileged because they have money and success, they do not need to worry about their music doing bad because they have a dedicated fandom behind them streaming and voting and supporting their every move, some groups dont even have a dedicated fandom. Saying a group is privileged is not an insult it is the truth, Not everything is hate and privilege can be used as a good word as I just described BTS good privilege.

    No

look at tribe , they just debuted and they are already sign in one of the biggest US label

while aespa isn't , are you going to say that tribe have bigger privilege because a us label notice them ?

same for brand embrassador, itzy debuted among a Big 3 company and didn't get any brand embassador deal

it prove nothing now to be a big 3 or not

  • You're mixing two concepts together and they're just not the same.

Why does BTS have the money to create high quality content ? because they've made countless millions of dollars from their previous works, they're not no name artists looking for someone to take a chance on them with outside money that might not work out.

Why do they have so many fans that guarantee their level of success ? years of cultivating that fandom with music, performances, etc, They were not handed anything.

Why are they able to guest on any show of their choosing, they can even get special performances like the one at grand central or Incheon Airport ? because of their own brand power and how massive they are, those places didn't sign off on letting them perform there for any other reason.

Privilege isn't about what resources you have access to, it's about the reason behind that.

Privilege is when groups have fans before people even know the members names, what they look like, the type of music they're gonna be making, It's being able to get high quality content right from the start when other new groups are in companies without enough money to afford that. It's getting slots at music shows and events(and also being how much time they are given) just because they're from a certain company, when they have yet to prove themselves.

I understand fans of privileged groups don't like it when it's mentioned, because it's seen as something that takes away from their group's hardwork, The reality is that EVERYONE in kpop works hard, it's not as if popularity and success is an perfect reflection of all the existing groups hardwork. Part of their success is because of their own effort but another chunk of it is because of their privilege, and the ratio of the two differs from one group to another, some groups have not benefited much from it while others are heavily reliant on it.
