A source tells about SM's plans about EXO and their 10th Year

The moment i see Lay is planning to leave SM but stay with EXO i know this all just BS. Lay is not a member of exo since 2017.EXOL just should move on. Just because he did a few second cameo in mv since 2017 you guys had high hope on him. The way I see…he had a better chance resign with SM than staying with EXO

he sings on every song in Don't Fight the Feeling album and that wasn't even a year ago

I hope this is wrong and they just all leave and start a label independent of SM, I'm so sick of following other SM groups' release schedule just to try and find out when EXO/EXO members might have comebacks. Also tired of SM stans chiming in about what EXO should do.

Suho just did an interview in this clip he said "The EXO members and I are working on the album, it will be out soon, please wait a little longer"

also according to twitter later on in that interview (or perhaps it was earlier) he said he's also preparing his 2nd Mini Album (he said 2nd mini album specifically several times, so I guess no full album just yet)

Edit: I listened again and he said we'll begin preparing the album soon (for EXO), not quite the same lol. I think this means there's a very good chance Chen is on it though at least!

Whether their contracts will be renewed or not will be determined this year, right?

I take these statements with a huge grain of salt, particularly how SM has to do something for their tenth year. No, they don’t, actually, other than figure out how to get them to resign.

The choice is up to the guys of course, but I’m always very torn in where I’d like to see them go/do. As a fan, I think the company has continually screwed them. But as a businessperson, I also understand that staying with the company has its own benefits as well, including access and usage of top level choreographers, songwriters, producers, directors and coaches, as well as potential for a high level of promotions and distribution. (Even the minimal promo was more promo that some other 3rd Gen soloists got at their smaller label, like Jay B..)

That said, they could easily choose to move to one of the other companies in the Big 4 and have access to many of those same pluses, plus they should have power wherever they go to have more control of their career. The fact they can still sell a million copies with no promo is a powerful statement to bring to the negotiating table, in addition to the strength of each member’s solo sales (of those who had solos.) They are definitely in the power seat for these negotiations.

If they move to a smaller label, obviously, they’d have more creative control but sacrifice the other aspects around promo and access (mostly because those top tier writers, choreographers, etc have associated top tier costs.)

The question I think is most interesting is that from the outside, SM seems more controlling and yet they have so many who resigned compared to JYP and YG so there must be something we’re not seeing behind the scenes that artists are valuing there?

Hybe is the wild card here. I’m assuming Hybe is making a play behind the scenes. That would put three of the top bg under their roof and we know from press reports that Hybe tried to buy the SM shares so it’s not like they’re not watching and looking for an opportunity here.n

If SM had business sense, they’d resign with Lay and work through the company he’s formed to manage their Chinese distribution/connections (ie with WayV). SM can manage the distribution and components outside of China while Lay’s company, with its roots in c-entertainment does the work in China, so it really becomes a joint partnership/investment. Of course this means sacrificing a larger percentage because Lay is a savvy businessman and would negotiate this down but it’s an interesting concept: the SM training system is still exceptional in targeting and training potential hopefuls, which he can maximize in his company. But logic and SM have rarely gone hand in hand. LOL

Rabbit hole, I know.

Wherever they go, they are immensely talented and will be successful!

only 3 member's contracts are up this year. the other's still have 1-2 years

Contract wise, as long as the boys are happy, I'll support them in whatever decision they make. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't have hopes but there are so many things we don't see Bts.
