EN- Jake controversy for wearing an Allah necklace.

  • This is an important topic to discuss, I am not blaming him, but kpop companies really see others cultures just as aesthetic and always commit the same mistakes. Exhausting.

  • Not much we can do other than generate backlash for each time they're out of line.

Most of these companies only respond to cashflow -- boycott hard enough and then they'll see something's wrong.

I wish they'd actually try to appreciate the culture rather than just use it but such is capitalism. Whatever sells.

  • Allah just means god in arabic

christians, jews and other religions followed by arabs use this word in a non-islamic way

seriously get that stick out of your ass... people have become so sensitive these days *yawn*

Yes. If they want to use others religion, culture, or whatever, they should start educating themselves without our help because what is the point of us educating them when they are the ones choosing to stay ignorant?

My ass is fine thank you.

If you don't see a problem, great, others see and they should be allowed to be heard and their beliefs respected.

  • Enhypen is already so problematic for newly debuted group. Is this their way of staying in limelight because they are not talented at all?

  • Respect is one thing and anyone has the right to be offended but at the same time it’s really tiring when some group are shoving their opinion or beliefs down to everyone’s throat. It’s not Jake’s fault tbh, he doesn’t need to learn all religion’s must do. Who does that? 😂 You wont measure respect in a piece jewelry or in this incideny alone. Most people don’t even research any religion even their own. Sometimes , the feeling of entitlement of this generation is too much.

  • Why are they problematic? They are quite successful for a yr old group. This incident wont even tarnish their fame. Fans do not even blame Jake nor Enhypen as a group. They will probably even gain more supporters or sympathuy because it’s a ridiculous accussation. And they are not the only K-pop idol who wear that piece of jewelry.

  • Truth is some people are just following the band wagon effect of “ educate them” etc as if they are educated in anything religious. IRL, if it’s not your religion, they wont ever bother to research it nor care about it. And u are not obligated to learn, people need to be more tolerant of each others beliefs, customs and culture. If it matters to u and it doesnt matter to us, both needs to be respected. No apologies are necessary because it is not intentional. Respect and Tolerance are a two way street. In other words, this issue is too petty and the only reason it was being dragged is because it involves Enhypen member.

OT: HYBE/BELIFT employees calculating how much profit they make from Muslim ENGENES vs if letting the controversy stir might be more profitable in the long run before deciding whether they should post non-descript apology #1574.

  • This generation is very vocal about cancelling people for every single mistakes others do. This cancel culture doesn’t automatically make u smart. Instead , it should be used as an opportunity to spread information than dragging people down. True respect means trying to understand each others situation. It was never a one way street.

  • This cancel culture is sometimes getting out of hand.

  • I doubt Jake knew, but the stylist was dumb as heck. Where is that, from some thrifted place?

People don't need to learn about every religion in the world. However I won't wear something related to a culture/religion that I know nothing of and then be surprised people of this religion got offended because I chose to stay ignorant.

"If it matters to u and it doesnt matter to us"

You can't take something out of another religion/culture, choose to ignore the meaning behind it and be like, "I don't care, it doesn't matter to me, it's not my religion anyway, but I'm still gonna use it for my aesthetic". That's literally called disrespect.

"No apologies are necessary because it is not intentional."

When I hurt people unintentionally, I still apologise because I ended up hurting them... That's called being empathic.

Allah doesn't mean god in arab. It's Ilah.Jake's not at fault here but i wish people respect other peoples religion.

  • This was a wrong move to make a thread about it in anons section, watch people insult Muslims and the issue here more knowing that their identity is hidden.

P.S I'm clueless about the situation on twitter but no Muslims was insulting or cancelling Jake in the thread which was closed by mods today, everyone (except one) agreed that it was 100% stylist's fault.

  • اللہ just means god in Arabic. Is it really an issue if someone wears that necklace?

    Ps. I'm a Muslim.

No الله is not a direct translation of "god". الله is specifically about Muslims' god. God in Arabic is إله (ilah)

For example, the shahada in Islam says "لا إله إلا الله " (la ilah ella Allah)

In English that's : there's no god but Allah. The arabic sentence uses 2 different words for god here, the first one is إله (Ilah) /god and that's the description. The 2nd is الله / Allah and that's the name.

  • I disagree — if we are going to be offended all the time for every single thing in this world, no growth will ever happen. Sometimes, we simply need to choose our battles wisely. How in heavens name will i know that this accessories or looks belong to a certain culture or religion? Do u research all the items u buy if the design is offending? I’m certain most of us dont regardless of color or religion. It’s too much to even expect it from everyone. Tolerance, regardless of ur beliefs & customs should be more promoted than cancel culture. This cancel culture only cultivates more hate and misunderstanding. This feeling of superiority that I know this so u get urself “ educated” only make some people isolated too for fear of being cancelled.

That's not true my arab christian friends refer to God by الله too.

However this type of Jewellery, with الله engraved on it, is worn only by Muslims.

When did I ever say I or anyone here was cancelling him.

"How in heavens name will i know that this accessories or looks belong to a certain culture or religion?"

The necklace has a word written in Arabic (it's not a random design like you said), on the website it was written Allah. The stylist could have taken just 3 min of her time for a quick Google research. It was unprofessional of her.

I'm not even offended because I know its probably not intentional but people have the right to speak up so the situation doesn't happen again. That's all.

Muslims don't want their religion being used just for aesthetics, and they have the right to feel that way.

I was about to defend him until I saw this. The shop really said “RelIgioN for AeStHEtics”

There’s nothing respectful about the source of the necklace and whoever bought it has issues

Sweetheart he'll never love you. Lawyers don't even do this much defending

It's three words that's part of their weird and horrible slogan. When you buy stuff at a store, you're not going to see those three words. It's probably not even listed on the packaging... if there is even packaging.

  • If you Google "Allah necklace" you get A LOT of results.

  • Or maybe don’t wear things in languages you don’t understand?

If someone gave you a cookie from a bakery that has an offensive slogan, should you be canceled for eating it?

  • People wear clothes and even get tattoos with words they don't understand... This time it happens to be a religious word

People should just research every single thing that they wear from now on
