What would you say is the typical age range to debut? Can you think of idols that debuted older than normal? Did they go on to be successful?
Idols who debuted older than average?

Sojin of Girl's Day was 23 when she debuted which is on the older side

Kahi
Damn! I just looked up Kahi and she debuted at 29!

Solar and Irene both 23 apparently, interesting

2NE1 Bom and Dara
Just looked them up and they were both 25. Wow! I'm especially impressed by how well they did considering they didn't even become trainees until their twenties. So dramatically different from some of the debut ages we see in others

I really wish debuting at an ''older'' age would be normalized. We really out here calling people in their late 20s and early 30s old and it's just ridiculous lol
Also,I believe it's just much better to enter a harsh industry like this as a full-fledged adult.

OnlyOneOf's Kyubin was 27 when he debuted. He's already done his military services and he's gonna reach his 30s this year.
oh I was wondering if they were all older but it looks like there's a range, so the group will still have to deal with enlistments.
I've been really liking them recently

I agree. I feel bad for teens having to deal with the dark sides of fame and the industry.

Yes. Nine, the maknae, is a 99-liner.
I like OOO a lot!

What is the average age to debut? My faves seemed to be around 20 (with the youngest being 17 and the oldest 21 - same for both groups)

I think the reason we will never see the debut age increase it's because it's easier to control teenagers than adults

Bomb,Dara,Girls'day Sojin, Barve girls the current line up debuted at relatively older age, Kahi, Victoria from F(x) she was 22 when the group made their debut compared to Kristal who was 14, Wanna one Jisung was 26 when he made he's debut and if I'm not wrong he was never part of a group before.
And many other idols that debuted at an relatively older age, i think entertainment companies should consider debuting older idols and thus for many reasons one of them is that the idols talent would more developed.
The ideal age form me to debut is between 20 and 24 but i think we're far from that ideal

Yeah, I guess the companies want to debut the idols at to younger ages partially to control and mold them more easily and partially to appeal to a certain segment of fans who prefer the look and demeanor that comes with younger ages. But I feel like it's weird as heck to prioritize those things rather than talent and skills. But I guess it's part of kpop marketing to feel like you've watched an idol grow into a better talent or something.

It seems to be 20 for me also. (I just did donkey math based on birth year without specifically looking at months)
EXO - avg age: 20 (this includes two members under 19)
NCT 127 - avg age: 20 (this includes two members under 19)
WayV - avg. age: 21 (if you subtract the members that previously debuted in NCT, the number is 20)
NCT Dream is of course the outlier.

jieun debuting now at 23 surprises me. I feel like it's even less common now than before to debut older.
30! Wow
-
Pink Fantady Yechan debuted at 23 years old and SeeA from the same group at 25. Aini who left the group debuted at 27.
27 is the second oldest I've seen for a female idol

Yeah, I feel like around 20 is pretty common for guys. I don't follow ggs but I wonder if it's younger

well technically she debuted at 27 with a different group…. but didn’t last long.
even before that she was also a backup dancer for idols for many years.
if we’re counting when they debuted professionally then she was around 20…. cause her first entertainment profession was a dancer. she didn’t really want to become an idol until later on.
but as part of a group? 27 with a flop group and 29 with Aftee School.

Originally I think Young K/Wonpil were meant to debut in GOT7 or maybe debut in a normal idol group because they were trained in dancing as well
But because Sungjin was hopeless in dancing, they decided to make a band for him because they love Sungjin vocals so much, and added Young K + Wonpil + Junhyeok + Jae and were suppose to debut as an acoustic band 5Live. Then they added Dowoon as a drummer tadaaa Day6 was formed. This probably took longer than usual after GOT7 debut

Jyp really wanted some numbers in his group names back then I guess lol
Have young k and wonpil ever put their dance skills to use since? I wonder how they felt to get made into a band instead of the bg that were expecting.

Right? Lol I actually could get behind the idea of an older group who did less intense choreo and focused on amazing vocals

OH WAIT IMAGINE A MALE GROUP DEBUTTING WITH GUYS LIKE RAIN

Songsun of TRI.BE is a good example. She officially debuted in February 2021, right before turning 24yo, and is nine years older than the group's maknae. She waited so long for a chance to debut that she gave up in 2020 and left the agency. After a month of rest at home, she figured there was nothing else she could or wanted to do, so she contacted back the agency and was reinstated.
