Groups with the biggest fandom growth during the pandemic

  • Which one do you think had the biggest growth? ( do not be biased) 107

    1. BTS (71) 66%
    2. NCT (14) 13%
    3. BLACKPINK (7) 7%
    4. SKZ (6) 6%
    5. TXT (4) 4%
    6. TWICE (4) 4%
    7. SEVENTEEN (1) 1%

Regardless of the pandemic and all the consequences it had in the world and specifically for this thread In the kpop music industry and music industry overall many groups had a massive growth in sales and overall aspects.

This is just base on my perspective looking at the growth in terms of physical sales, streams, views, chart performance locally and internationally, online concerts and engagements in SNS and overall.

Since March of 2020 till now June 2021.

Here is my short list in no particular order:

    1. BTS

    2. NCT

    3. BLACKPINK

    4. SEVENTEEN

    5. SKZ

    6. TWICE

    7. TXT

Comment which one do you think had it and please do not be biased and bring facts 🧍🏾‍♀️

  • BANG BANG CON The Live (1 Day)
    756k viewers from 107 regions

Map of The Soul ON:E (2 Days)
    993k viewers from 191 regions

    Muster Sowoozoo (2 Days)
    1.33M viewers from 195 regions

The growth is just insane :froghype:

  • The Boyz.

They went from 85K sales for their Reveal albu on Hanteo in the beginning of 2020 to 300K+ sales for their Chase mini album at the end of it. That's insane growth for a year.

Reveal in February 2020 didn't chart in Melon's old Top 100 at all and The Stealer later on charted at #12.

  • Bts I think. Their growth just from On era to dynamite era is insane. And even more from dynamite to butter. It's like they just exploded. It was so easy to decimate dynamite records which were insane enough to begin. 4 #1s in less than a year like it's nothing.

They sold almost the same as mots 7 for an expensive album (Be) with only one version.

They've also almost doubled their online concert attendance from 700k with BBC to 1.3 million for just a Muster fan meeting.

  • BTS

literally by numbers, they've shown the biggest follower growth, streaming growth, even online concert paid viewers growth.

(sales wise we haven't been able to see full growth yet cause BE was 2 versions only and with one of them being $50, but the fact that its sold 3.6M despite that is INSANE)

Their growth in India and Japan especially have been fckin insane. Also shown insane growth in US, Europe and South america thanks to dynamite.

    :pepe-tea:

  • Obviously BTS. They went from below 10m daily streams on Spotify to stable 20m without comeback. Online concerts numbers almost doubled.

BTS gained more fans than any other group has fans in total.

  • BTS going from no #1 hit on BB Hot 100 at the start of 2020 to 4 #1 hits one year later says enough imo. From #4 to #1 in 6 months. In comparison, Fake Love to Boy with Luv (~11 months), we only rose 2 positions (#10 to #8).

Like ppl already said, both online concert attendance and streams doubled since Dynamite. Now we wait for a normal album release to compare with MOTS7 numbers to see the growth in album sales.

Also, Army twitter now collects 100k-200k hit tweets like candy.

300k likes for an army tweet :whatk:

  • BTS obviously. Refer to posts above.

Also NCT's growth has been insane. Especially dream. Going from 600k to 2 million albums sold (for a single album), is frankly mind biggling, and no amount of savings from fans will reach that number unless there has been growth in the fandom.

EXO also seems to have had a growth internationally, as this comeback has shown that they can reach records and beat records of previous comeback for intl platforms (in Korea they have signficantly declined in popularity gp wise)

  • BTS and TXT. Both are seeing explosive growth. Globally for BTS (especially in India and the US- judging by the Hot 100 buying and streaming power), while TXT has grown a lot in Japan, as well as Korea and the US.

TXT growth from Minisode has been insane.

They became the #2 boy group internationally and their album sales doubled, I think, with no crazy amount of versions.

  • RIP to the BTS growth thread from the old forum. I would have linked it :pepe-sad::pepe-sad::pepe-sad::pepe-sad: . I swear it was like over 300 pages of BTSs growth during quarantine documented .

The tweets that started it all :pepe-sad:

300k likes for an army tweet :whatk:

i haven’t liked it yet lmaooo

  • my picks

    1. BTS - they released dynamite and exploded internationally, increased the gap with the rest of groups

    2. NCT - before 2020, their best selling albums were around 300k. Now they easily sell millions and all their old releases crossed new records. Digitals and overall brand popularity also increased a lot

    3. BLACKPINK - exploded internationally and became the #1 gg in Korea, first one to sell 1M+

    4. SKZ and TXT - both groups were selling around 200k? before 2020, and their digitals were below/the same as ab6ix. X1 was still ahead of them. Now both have surpassed all the competition in different metrics

    6. TWICE/Seventeen - Their physicals grew but not as much, same for their digitals.

I'd say oh my girl and tbz grew a lot too, probably even more than some groups mentioned above. these two weren't selling a lot before 2020 but now could rival top groups even if their numbers aren't near millions

  • Let me explain why it is BTS with data

    Is he.....you know?

    투모로우바이투게더 방탄
    레드벨벳엑소샤이니에이티즈

    • Official Post

All of them to be honest. There's a reason sales are up almost across the board and most new releases are out doing their previous comebacks in views. Almost every single pre-2020 kpop video has a comment about someone who was a kpop fan and found X group or found kpop in general during the pandemic. Even disbanded 2nd gen groups. Having so much content readily available has been a huge boon to the industry.

I have to say NCT though because they were my pandemic group and I know a good majority of the NCTzens here also found them during the dark times. pepe-neo-heart.gif
