Have you got or had problem neighbours, if so did you confront them or do anything to resolve the problem?

  • Opposite to me there is this woman with 4 kids 3 dogs and 4 cats, also her boyfriend is there a lot and sometimes his 3 kids ( from a different relationship ) stay there too now and again and they make serious amount of noise, but the worst part is when she is not there one of her dogs bark constantly in the day, and if she and her bf go out for an evening and say return at 2am that same dog barks all night. It barks even if one of the older kids is there.

Coming into the summer I have my windows open and she leaves her small windows open so the barking is very loud.

They are the kind of neighbours where they wont engage in a 'hello' if I see them, and she always shouting at her kids.

So what do I do? I have spoken to some other neighbours about it and they all are frustrated but dont want to cause trouble by knocking on her door and confronting her about the situation as they have said they are scared of repercussions, one being we all have cats and mine and neighbours cats do go into their house as her cats and ours are friends and she could if she got nasty poison or harm our cats ( we woundn't put it past her )

    So what do we do?

    Suggestions welcome.

The only thing I thought of was to write an anonymous letter to her via post?

Also if you have or had problem neighbours, what were they like or doing, is it on going or resolved? Do tell your experiences as I think others would also find it interesting to read/relate to.

  • if you really don't want to deal with it I know that you can call the local police and tell them that this family is being disruptively loud.

I know I've broken up one too many backyard parties that way.

Edit: usually the police would keep it anonymous.

Edit2: at least in my experience, the police will show up and tell that they've received a noise disturbance complaint etc&etc. If they still won't keep it down I think you can escalate to suit.

    Edit3: Here's a website I found. https://www.findlaw.com/reales…eighbor-s-noise-faqs.html

Edit4: if you feel that you alone would be intimidated by that neighbor, You can schedule a day in which all of you show up and then knock on their door.

  • Oh yep I had this guy in the flat above me, and he would shout to him self every day/evening, like,

    "I don't belive it!"

    "Its not happening!!!!"

    "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccking Hellllllllllllllllll"

He would repeat them a lot, he his not mental as his job is a carer in an old peoples home.

Anyway it got really annoying so when he shouted the above, I shouted as loud as I could looking up at the ceiling. " it is bloody happening and you will fucking believe it!!!"

    Then it went quiet :)

He never did it again and sold his flat and moved out lol.

  • I looked online and police wont do anything about dogs barking they say on the website to call environmental health for noise pollution. But I dont want to have my name on the complaint as it is not anon.

  • Not any more fortunately. I moved a few months ago to a much better and quite neighbourhood. My new neighbours are so quiet I hardly hear them. My last neighbours were so noisy and intrusive. I had a young tradie next door who was doing reno work on his house at all hours. I asked them to stop but they didn’t. We also had druggos living up the road and one of them tried to break in to my house. I’m so glad I don’t live there anymore. My mental health has improved since,

I think its going to be hard to stay anon in this case. If you can, I guess you could get as many people to sign the complaint or smth like that.

Or if you feel that you alone would be intimidated by that neighbor, you can schedule a day in which all of you show up and then knock on their door.

The post idea isn't bad... but there would be a return address, wouldn't there?

  • Thanks for that, I read it then realized it was US law, UK law is different in a lot of things.

  • The girls in my dorm were very noisy and had the cops called on them a lot. I think in a residential area people will take it seriously. I assume its hard for her to control them all will so many pets and kids so I think maybe an honest conversation could help. If anyone in your building is looking for a pet dog perhaps they could adopt her loud dog and give it better care and keep it occupied. Noise can really get to someone's head. It must be difficult dealing with this situation.
