I think the comparison with BP is fair, there's nothing to take offense of. Plus, with BP releasing so little content anyway, it's not like there wasn't any room for another group.

I suppose they might have outdone BP in sheer in-your-face-aggression, but the song is a blunt instrument in that way. I feel like the people who try to copy Teddy's productions miss the fact that they're not composed of single instruments blaring with no counterpoint or padding or anything. Blackpink don't make monophonic ringtone music, but all the imitators seem to think that they did.

We had this conversation with Mafia in the Morning recently as well, I think, although my gripe with that one is limited only to the chorus. It's like a parody of what Blackpink is. Like a really dumb version of it.

I wanna say tho, man, I thought you said you liked complexity, but I get it, like, maybe the vibe is enough to excuse the extreme simplicity.

I feel that way about Ice Cream, for example, that's a solid fuckin jam.

I thought LaDiDa was the best of the retro songs of late, though. It was fantastic, and I hate that sound.
