How many years will BTS go on for?

  • How long will BTS go on for 63

    1. Another 2-3 years (2) 3%
    2. 4-5 years (12) 19%
    3. 6-9 years (9) 14%
    4. 10-15 years (11) 17%
    5. 15+ years (29) 46%

What do you think ? I say another 10 years, when you look at the longevity of Big Bang, Shinee, Super Junior - could they even do a Shinwa?

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T HATE ON IDOLS

    1. They are young people trying their best in a competitive industry.

    2. You don't know what other pressures they are under, company mistreatment, diet, lack of success, not earning, long hard hours, family problems etc.

    3. They have worked for years towards a dream to entertain us and offer it up pretty much free if you factor in streaming, Youtube MVs, reality shows.

    4. We all know what can happen in extreme cases, mental health problems and even suicide (Sulli)

  • I think it depends of what you with "go on". They will probably get in a "late" period where they are not disbanding but it's longer periods between the singles, maybe 6-9 years if you include the late "slow period".

  • I say another 2-3 years because of Army deployment

They won't disband because of the military though they'll just carry on like other groups have

I agree there will be a slow down with reduced comebacks most likely someone will probably get married in the middle of all of that as well

  • As long as they want to, I guess :dancer:

I think if they want to keep for a loooong time ( like, Idk, 10 years or more ), their career will have to slow down a bit, at least when it comes to side-content.

They are clearly working ALL THE TIME, and it's fine in your twenties, but it's easy to imagine that at least some of them will want to have time for a family or something.

  • How long can a boy group last at most? It's not like they gonna tour the world at 70yo like the rolling stones.

I think Shinwa and Sechskies show you can go on for a long time if you really want, but I doubt you can go as hard on the dance moves later in life :-D

BackStreet Boys are from the 90s but they still tour and have a solid fan base to this day. BTS may not be able to dance forever, but who’s to say they won’t have an audience for their hits when they’re older? At least in Korea, they’re on the level of icons

To answer OP, I think BTS is just too profitable to ever disband officially. I think a likelier scenario is for the boys to gradually branch off into solo careers while still officially being in BTS. Maybe they’ll come back with a group album once in a while. But that’s more like 10 years down the road.

True, even though the Backstreet Boys were more vocal based even during their prime. I think? Which makes it easier to keep going as a performer when growing older.

K-pop has a greater emphasis on dance and choreos so I was wondering if a group like BTS could transition into something that is more appropriate for older performers.

Of course, in the case they even want to! Which is doubtful.

  • I think if you are mega rich and successful you will eventually dictate your own terms. Does anyone fall out of love with singing and dancing really? I think where idols have lost the love is where they've been exploited, hated on and not paid for their work but BTS are in dreamland on all counts : sales, great songs, they all look happy, the biggest most protective fandom in K-Pop history.

  • Kim Taehyung has already said it how many years they want to go on......

During the final concert held at the Seoul Olympic Stadium, wrapping up their world tour, BTS‘s V shared that he — like the fans — doesn’t want the night to end.

In his speech, he commented that BTS now has a single night left in the adventure that was the Love Yourself : Speak Yourself world tour (as of October 27, 2019). He was sad to see such an amazing experience come to an end…

    Quote
We now have one night left of the concert… but honestly, we want to keep going.
    — V

… and he pointed out that he understood how many ARMYs have been unable to come see the group perform live.

    Quote
And for ARMYs who haven’t been able to see us live yet, we really want to give them the chance to come hear us perform too. I mean, I want everyone to have seen us.
    — V

To which, he then promised, to “keep going” until the day comes when every ARMY has seen BTS perform live!

    Quote
So, until such a time comes, we’ll keep going. We’ll keep making music, we’ll keep releasing albums, and we’ll keep holding concerts and performing.
    — V

V’s promise has deeply moved ARMYs, making them feel like their love and support are being reciprocated. As long as ARMYs live on, so will BTS! ARMYs can’t wait to continue watching them make music and perform everywhere around the globe.

  • Who knows. I think they'll for sure go at least till the end of current contract. I also think that they won't disband in true meaning of this term tbh, cause BTS brand is just too big and will be beneficial for a very long time for both members and the company. The other thing is that probably little later they might just not want to continue so intense with all content and releases, probably will kinda start to do each their own thing (acting, MCing, any other business, maybe singer career, just producing, etc) or will want to slow down in industry and settle down with a partner.

I also think that there is just so much pressure on them at this point (from industry, from their nation, from government, etc), cause if smth was that wrong that they almost disbanded few years ago then now with them reaching new horizontals it must be even more stressful, so I just hope that they will be able to handle it and keep on going for as long as they can and want and it already will be amazing.

I think that’s a great point. No matter how you cut it, there’s no way they’d want to keep churning out so much extra content indefinitely. I can see them gradually phasing out stuff like Run BTS as they get older and just sticking to their music releases.

When it comes down to it, the idol lifestyle doesn’t suit a grown adult with marriage, kids and other commitments. Which is why I predict BTS to transform into a legacy act who come together to release music once in a blue moon while they spend most of their time on solo careers.

  • It depends how many years bts themselves want go on. You can always earn more money, but time here is very limited. Instead of focusing making money, they should think what makes themselves happy. They already have more than enough money rest of their lives.

It's not like they've not done sit down performances or performances without choreo before, they do it quite a lot for a dance based group

They've said they're planning on continuing for as long as they can

Jimin specifically said in the rolling stone interview that when he grows older he'd like to grow a beard and just sit on stage with the others and sing and engage with the fans, I'm absolutely up for all that (beard included)

  • That's a very specific detail that needed to be mentioned indeed :-D

" Life goal: growing a beard" compared to the stuff they've done so far, this one should be pretty easy

I've heard it's a struggle for some men so maybe not!

Right now they can only show some days of growth in fancafe photos before shaving it off for broadcast X/

If I were a dude and I couldn't grow a beard or moustache because of my job I would probably be so curious about it and put it on my future to do list :-D

Yes it's true some men have a hard time growing a beard [corrected]. I don't have this problem but since the covid crisis, lockdown and such, I only shave once a month. :-D

  • It’s funny people keep talking about starting a family. Looking at other Korean celebs/idols a lot of them dont get married as fast compared to American celebs. I only see rapmon/Taehyung/Jin getting married before 40. So I don’t think they’ll “disband” because of family they just won’t come back as much

    This!

And BTS still have a time capsule to open in 2039 rmbr that :pepe-sad:

  • They're in that rarefied air where they don't have to ever "disband" in the usual sense of the word. They can go off and do whatever projects they want and come back together here and there to do albums, concerts, tours whatever they want. Their brand is solid gold.

Also, they don't have to dance all the time, them just vibing on stage is enough. They've been doing more of that lately they understand they can't do hard choreo forever but there have been plenty of dancing popstars who still dance into their 40s, 50+ they just pick and choose their spots.

Why have tons of groups not disbanded because of military obligations but "BTS" is the group that definitely will, some of y'all stay wishin' and hopin'...

Actually this is really true if you think about it, how many current or former idols have kids? I mean there's a lot of Gen 2 groups how many settled down, got married even after their groups disbanded?
