Do your parents expect you to take a specific major in college/ university?

As long as it is a good college/university.

I took up computer science as my major bc I was forced to do so by my family.
It was a coincidence that I ended up liking it.

When I was in highschool, my dad wanted me to go to a Military School to study economics there but I didn't do it.
And since we don't have to pay tuition at universities I didn't have an issue.

Nope

Most people in my country don't go to university
And if you want to go to one than you need to have visited a specific type of secondary school and you don't have finished on there after grade 10 but stayed till grade 12 and than you need specific grades in your diploma at the end and even if you got all of this many of them don't even go to a university
So technicaly 1/5 of all people could've atended a university but at the end only 1/10 of all people actually went to one

Oh gosh the battles my sis and I had with our mom about it (dad was supportive). But at the end, we told her: sorry mom, we won’t be a doctor or lawyer or banker like you wanted. Lol we tried and didn’t enjoy it. we would pursue what we loved and what made us happy - it will be okay. Don’t worry too much.
We still laugh about how angry my mother was when we finally told her what our majors were but years later, we are all fine in our professional field. She learned to accept it especially after she saw how we can enjoy our career and thrive too.

Hm honestly I think my parents and I were both surprised when I actually ended up graduating highschool. So the fact I even want to go to college may be surprising to them in general tbh
My grades were so bad (mental health stuff going on) I had to take 4 grades in my grade 12 year to even graduate (8, 9, 10 and 11)...
