Koreans really hate 2021 music

But koreans are boomers as well. Aren't they mostly on their 40-50?
-
Weren't both of these promoted on variety shows?
Shows that GP loves 2nd Gen taste, and people call us boomers
Koreans are more boomers though, they are an ageing population AFAIK lol

On MelOn the demographics of the top 10 are like 10% in the 10s, 40% in the 20s, 30% in the 30s, 15% in the 40s, 5% in the 50s and 5% in the 60s (yes, I know it's adding to 105%, but I'm rounding the numbers from my observations)

Ive just checked Melon charts
SG Wannabe
Now even Laboum wtf
I'm not even talking about idol only here
Not even their recent soloists and OSTs are charting high
What's happening? Korean charting really confuses me. When I think I've understand their listening habits something like that happens
It is just that most releases are weak / not sticking with GP
OMG's D3 is charting at #7
ITZY's MITM at #12
Rosé solo went top3
I think is because not many groups have released/comeback, hence GP went for older songs. BTS, BP, Twice, EXO, RV coming anyway and those should shake up the chart a bit

normal
The kpop get worse and worse each years

nostalgia is a powerful motivator (is motivator the right word???)
-
-
Ok, your point ?
-
Laboum and Brave Girls aren't huge acts either
SG Wannabe don't have a hit sing for over a decade now
I doubt the lack of big releases are driven them
-
Not enough big releases to refresh the charts. There isn't a lot of big artists in Korea.
-
Ok, your point ?
that you're saying that Koreans really hate 2021 music
when the chart prove the contrary

Proves the contrary with the majority of top 20 being either 2020 or even older songs?
Korean charts used to be dynamic and filled with new releases. So far I can count 8 songs in top 20 released on 2021. That's bad

Shows that GP loves 2nd Gen taste, and people call us boomers
Tbf La Boum is a 3rd gen group

Tbf La Boum is a 3rd gen group
They are like a 3rd Gen group, with a 2nd Gen-ish sound

They're still in heavy covid restrictions. I think people are just naturally looking at things that make them happy or nostalgic for pre-pandemic times. I know when we were in our heaviest restrictions a lot of older comedies from when I was a teenager were suddenly mixed in with the new stuff on trending categories.
I haven't heard the Laboum song, but I would not be surprised if one factor of Rollin's success outside of just the video going viral is that it's a light, summery sounding song. Not only does it make you remember past summers, but it makes you look forward to this summer and things possibly be better.

More popular and larger groups have not had a CB. Chart changes when 3rd generation groups make CB.

Dude, almost everything is open in Korea since last June
-
I’m sure the charts will change with all the Summer comebacks. Jun-July gonna be very busy.

The amount of disrespect to Oh My Girl in this thread!

No. 2021 started with Gidle's song hwa reaching melon top 10. iu has all her album songs on melon chart as expected. Brave girls' rollin was unexpected viral song because of a fan compilation of them performing for military many times which garnered them public attention and good will. SGwannabe performed their song in Yu Jaesok's show i think who is most popular host in Korea. After brave girls went viral a lot of people started predicting which group would be next and that's how laboum came up.
Korea most of time do not care for idol songs unless you are one of the top groups or somehow go viral otherwise rollin would have been popular in its release year.

If anything idols are performing much better this year than in the last 2 years

Yoo Jae Seok is creating an SG Wannabe inspired group called MSG Wannabe
SG Wannabe were invited to perform some old songs on his show Hangout With Yoo
They also covered a La Boum song on his show
These songs rose on the charts after these episodes aired

nostalgia is a powerful motivator (is motivator the right word???)
Nostalgia is a powerful feeling or emotion.
I just heard this the other day and it brought me back:

So? To people salty about the chart, who are you to say your tastes are superior to them.
This is the Melon chart for Koreans, and this is what they like. After the reform, it heavily counters zombie streamers.
Now it's better because the chart actually reflects overall popularity.
"Kpop" is not as big as you believe it to be. C'mon, there are other genres too.

Have you even read the thread?
-
New charts system reforms to general public popularity. There have been old and new songs on the chart. This few months is just an abnormalty, but many 2021 songs still have been charting well.
-
I'm sorry the chart doesn't align with your tastes.
And I'm sorry you don't know how to read. Hope education gets better whatever you comes from
