When someone, who is not in a position of authority over me, tells me they need me to do something. Example: "I need you to pick up some milk while you are out"
If you really need the milk, then it better save a life, or put out a fire when I get back with it.
It's just as easy to say "Can you pick up some milk while you are out?"

I do, but that doesn’t drive me as crazy as the “both” answer. It’s okay to say you don’t know or that you can’t decide. Wait until you can decide and then answer. I don’t mind waiting for a well-considered answer.
If I wanted to hear “both,” I wouldn’t ask the question at all because I already know all of us want both.

That's very true. It's just that my sibling has a very bad habit of never picking and then complaining later T.T
