US leg of world tour seems to be like a vampire siphoning health and beauty from Idols

  • Whenever I see a group going for a month or more to USA I'm worried. It's always the same case. Booking concerts each 2-3 days, sometimes doing like back to back shows in same city. At the end it all looks kind of like medieval battlefield on which only strongest, and sometimes the luckiests manage to survive. I really don't know why the agencies are so dumb, and they can't just book a show on friday in Seattle, and then a sunday show in Portland, then move to Los Angeles to get a show on saturday, and maybe do something like thursday show in Phoenix?

You probably get my point already, I wish so those dates would be more spread out. Because it's really sad to read that after those tours or even in the middle of them one or another group members got injured, or sick, etc. In addition to that why are always those cameras everywhere? Your idol just got concert, or already got a few of them, and suddenly she makes a live on Weverse, Youtube or Instagram?! Or your boygroup main dancer who is hella tired suddenly needs to attend fansign on a day which he should be able to rest? Or even worse you take full group on their day-off to some place and make them film a variety content for youtube series.

I get the title is about US leg of world tour, but overall it's about one or another agency stupid decisions. Well the schedules are so weird and packed that I even recently saw a post about make-up or hairstylist unnie getting sick due to overwork... that's ridiculous seriously.

  • While I could certainly criticize certain tour scheduling tropes that some companies are guilty of, it's just an inconvenient fact that the US is a big country with a lot of ground to cover and a large number of major cities to visit, so this sort of thing is bound to happen if they want to reach a wide audience without it taking forever. Just look at other music acts, who tend to have similarly packed schedules across the country. How many Kpop groups really have that grueling of a US tour schedule though? I would think only a small handful are popular enough, with enough demand to justify it.

how about LOONA infamous tour where they had 14 concerts in 28 days? :/

Purple Kiss got 13 concerts in 23 days

STAYC got 10 concerts in 21 days

We could probably go on, and on with it.

Other music acts, well that way we could only count those who are dancing so maybe someone like Beyonce or J.Lo. Not to mention many times those other western artists when they're touring, they're just touring, and doing nothing else. Not to mention many have private jets, or top level big buses so they can rest in comfy way. Meanwhile idols are flyin with cheapest tickets and also they're not staying in best hotels either.

+ like I said if they're touring, then that should be main and only focus. Other things should be set aside.

  • Those groups' schedules do sound pretty bad, but frankly I'm not sure why they're even doing that many concerts here, much less that close together. Groups that small should only be doing select cities, with one show per city. It's only the bigger groups that should have to worry about their schedules being packed with additional dates in each city. Likewise, the quality of accomodations likely differ between groups and companies. Bigger groups are going to have a chartered plane or at least a bus, and stay in nicer hotels.

  • I think the problem is spreading things out costs more money

accommodation, food, transportation all costs money and that's just the kpop members

then you got to add all the crew and staff behind the scenes

without knowing the numbers - it might not be profitable for kpop groups to extend things out...

the profit motive will always triumph over any semblance of care or appreciation of the health of the idols/staff themselves...

  • This is a good point, but I'm thinking of Twice's tour right now.

Initially they announced about 20 North American dates. Then they added another 10 or so.

These are rough figures, but it was something like that.

All of the additional dates were second (or even third or fourth) nights in the same venue.

There was no need to do those extra dates - they didn't save on costs by increasing the touring intensity. The shows didn't even sell that well. Yes, it generates extra revenue. But the tour revenue would have exceeded $200m either way.

And there are consequences to touring that intensively. As a performer, you inevitably need to hold back and conserve your voice/energy if you're doing four nights in a row.

  • I agree with everything you said however the $$$ will still reign supreme

with twice's US tour - Dahyun is out and recently for their Phoenix show Mina was out

however the question the problem is that does nothing to affect ticket sales or the fans since fans will keep showing up and be like awww...poor Dubu...poor Black Swan - get better we're thinking of you etc etc all the while THE SHOW MUST GO ON...

now I'm not saying that twice doesn't have a say at all in their scheduling since I believe that Twice as big as they are now and have a lot more bargaining power to say NO to extra dates but those dates were still added and twice agreed to such (I wonder if a group such as twice can refuse extra touring dates????)

I guess the good thing is that with touring most of the profits will go to the members so that's something in their favour lol

Most of the time though, the announcements of a member not being able to do shows comes AFTER the tickets are purchased, and other side things like hotels and flights booked.

Like, I already have my ITZY tickets for Sydney and Melb in April. I have flights paid for and hotels booked. If Chaeryeong for some reason couldn't do the shows, I'd be disappointed AF. BUT... my flights have cancellation fees and getting ticket refunds for concerts? Night impossible.

So the show will go on.

I DID know about Lia cancelling on the 2024 tour, that was announced in Nov 23 and tickets were purchased Feb 24. But that was indeed a decision I made because when it comes to kpop tours and Australia, any groups tour might be their last in Australia... dreamcatcher.

Taylor Swift did 3 or 4 days in USA every week

USA is an expensive place . The staff costs are also high.

Even Lee Jieun who rarely does quick events, followed this schedule

Because there was some system issues, IU and the crew (incl her brother and the bodyguard) moved from Atlanta to Washington DC in a bus. It is about 600 miles/1,000 km, a 14 hr bus ride

Because staying in USA was expensive

July 15 Newark United States Prudential Center 72,600[A]
July 19 Atlanta State Farm Arena
July 22 Washington, D.C. Capital One Arena
    July 25 Rosemont Allstate Arena
    July 30 Oakland Oakland Arena
    August 2 Inglewood[d] Kia Forum
  • another stupidity of kpop agencies
