I think the Hybe association and how the group was form makes them a kpop like group. Interesting thing people that arent even familiar with them call them a kpop group. People that were watching the grammys considered them a kpop group. I think a lot of it has to do with presentation.

I watched the Netflix show so I know they’re not a kpop group but didn’t think people in the west might label them a kpop groups regardless

I do know people outside the kpop bubble can be ignorant to what is kpop overall!

Things have escalated so quickly though! Now people are reading into their whole past it just feels like things may only get messier. This wasn’t even part of the original situation and now has become a new problem!

Anyways I don’t think Hybe will disband them I mean they didn’t even disbanded NJz who they took to court, this is child’s play for Hybe now

I think the bigger question becomes will they lose a member (and am I right to say one the most popular members internationally?) and will they still be supported like before? I know a certain parent seems to thinks so lol

I think all of the kpop adjacent groups use kpop for clout but don't want to be labelled as a kpop group. So, it makes sense why people associate kpop with group like Katseye and XG. I don't think people are saying UK girl group Say Now is kpop adjacent or Indonesian group No Na because they're not really using kpop for clout

Agreed. People that don't really follow kpop will base things on first impressions. When they see a group like Katseye they just call them that kpop group with the gap ad. I think presentation and how the group presents themselves is why people say that. I think Hybe x Geffen wanted to use kpop fans to build group up and then shift away once they got big enough. It's not a bad strategy becuase most people that follow girl groups and boy groups have moved onto kpop since western pop music doesn't produce them anymore.

It's in Hybe's best interest to keep the group around. I don't think they will kick Manon because it's either her or Lara that are the most popular member. I'm leaning a bit more towards Lara in regards to popularity but this drama may have pushed Manon to #1. There's people that don't even know the group or follow kpop talking about it. I think once Manon liked the video about mistreatment of black members in girl group this became a controversy that is gaining a lot of traction. Hybe has to play their cards smart due to that reason because you don't want to be another label that mistreated and kicked out a black member in a girl group.

I'm still surprised there's no communication with the label to cool things down. Plus, Dani saying her father doesn't represent her thoughts, so she can't be associated with that trainwreck. I still can't believe how he got himself involved in a nasty way.

I’m at work so i can’t watch the clip, but they were truly set up and then set up for failure.

They go into an academy, are told they WILL debut, then theyre told “lol jk all this work!? Just for a survival show” then theyre told company is like… hmm none of you are famous enough… lets get an influencer.

Then the company takes like…. HUGE creative liberties with their politics in choosing who will join, and now theyre going to be watched with the finest of lenses to MAKE SURE they fuck up and get caught.

Manon cant win- she was put in so she feels almost forced

Lara and Dani are CLEARLY soloists

Megan, Yoonchae and Sophia like actually cohesively work as a group and have that training mindset down but the other 3 offset that polished product with “western authenticity” and it just really doesn’t work when you look closely.

As individuals i think they are so talented but as a whole they literally NEED to have public friendly personas and public friendly songs (not Eat Zucchini, not Gnarly) and just nothing is working right. They have soooo much attention and just dont know what to do with it all.

I remember people were worried this would be H2H but no one member stayed at the back the whole time, it rotated so all members at some point are the one being blocked out but it doesn’t look like that during that video

She's a weaker performer and had the least amount of training. It's not like a Kazuha thing in Le Sserafim where she has limited training, but a background in dancing. She doesn't really have a background in the arts like the other members, which explains that. I think the important thing about Manon is she's the visual of the group and the person that has the ability to draw fans. I think that quality is why she's important to the group.
