Taeyeon may have the more powerful voice, but Jessica was THE voice of SNSD. I don't know how this is even a question, frankly. Her voice defined their actual sound in a way that no amount of belting from Taeyeon would have replicated. It's the one that stuck in your memory after the song was over. The way Taeyeon wants to sing was frankly a poor fit for the group she was in and, especially in their earlier years, she often faded into the background in ways that she probably shouldn't have.

In K-pop, it’s universally known that Taeyeon has the best and most impactful vocal parts in SNSD’s hit songs.

All I can say is this. Without Jessica SNSD is not the same.

Also, Taeyeon's vocals were more stand out but that doesn't mean it defined the whole group.

As much as I love both of them, for me it was Seohyun and Sunny. Their vocals were the real flavor.

I voted for Jessica because I have always noticed her voice more than Taeyeon's but the real answer is both of them. They were an iconic vocal duo and they complemented each other well.

It's a bit of an oversimplification. I am not a Jessica stan and I don't hate SM groups (I mainly stan Red Velvet and I also like H2H) but Jessica's vocals have always been more striking than Taeyeon's to me, at least in SNSD songs.

Jessica is responsible for the uniquely serene sound that they had. Her range, vocal runs and vulnerability made the Snsd discography distinct from all others. Her adlibs were unmatched tbh. She was a main vocalist for a reason. Jessica's vocals are a very good example of the importance of style given the role she played in shaping Snsd songs.

Taeyeon is responsible for the power. Her technique is insane. Her range was limited compared to Jessica but that didn't stop her from killing it. Taeyeon has done the best she could with her vocals something difficult to achieve.

I feel like you could take away Taeyeon from Snsd and either bring in someone else or not and they'd still sound powerfully unique but not Jessica. Their sound changed post 9/30. They lost the uniquely soft but powerful sound that Jessica gave them. And also the powerful TaeJess harmonies were lost forever.

Sunny has the smoothest and cleanest head voice that even Taeyeon lacks. Jessica could match her falsettos to a small extent but Sunny was the king of head voice in the group.

Is it hard not hard to the tell who is acctually singing in a 9 member group? I'm sometimes it can be very obvious for my, like CL in 2NE1, but In a group like Twice I can often only guess if I don't have it in my face.

That's a you problem, as in you aren't familiar enough with the group to tell their voices apart.

If you can't tell Twice apart, hoo boy, you got problems. They have more distinct vocal styles than most groups half their size. Of, course, if you're listening to many of their older songs, you're only hearing two members anyway...

If you a big fan of a group that constaly listen to a group, sure I can understand if you learn to tell who is who if they haver diffrent voices, but are todays vocals blended and altered a lot in the productions? I not a big super fan of just one group I litsten to a big mix of groups so I don't really have intrested and time to learn how excatly each members sound in Twice, even if I in some songs can tell who it is.

Exactly. That's why I hate when people say that one person is more important in SNSD than the other when I can say without any bias, if you remove any of them they won't sound the same.

For me, the Golden Maknae and Sunny were like Wheein in MAMAMOO, the backbone of the group. Not many people (outside the fandom) knew why they were more important than Taeyeon or Jess.

I still think SNSD was the most balanced girl group at SME.

It's hard.

Because songs often have many layers. They can do both ad-libs, harmonize (self-harmonize, high/low harmonize) at the same time.

It's impossible to always tell who's singing what part without untrained ears or special software.
