I remember when Ejae visited Korea for KBS radio. Nobody greeted her except a handful of journalists. She was a part of making history for korean culture by winning a Grammy for Golden. But still, koreans ignored them. Even the korean president congratulates the song but didn't even mentioned their names. But he did so for Rose and Yoonchae of Katseye. We know how superficial koreans are with looks. I reluctantly think this is one of the major reasons why they are acting like this against Ejae, Audrey and Rei. And of course their age which shouldn't even matter. Sad but I believe that's case. Had they been younger and had looks that fits the korean beauty standard, then koreans would be parading for the three by now...
The ugly truth why koreans don't care about the real singers of Huntrix
-
-
-
Because they made a great achievement thanks to an animated movie not thanks to their own name
most people don't even know who sing "Golden" if you ask them they'll answer Huntrx not Ejea etc...
even to the original singer it'll bring them some hype but it'll not give them a big push in the industry, just like most people don't know who's behind most Disney songs etc...
the original singer will always be in the shadow that's why they'll never receive the same acknowledgment than people like rosé or yoonchae that become popular thanks to their own name
-
This thread is basically "No one cares because they're ugly and old." I know Koreans have a reputation for being shallow, but you really think that's it, and not the fact that they're essentially voice actresses, whose faces are never even shown in the big product they're attached to?
PS: There are active Kpop idols older than Ejae.
I don't know, who?

could be just a genuine mistake

No. It's just another example of GP knowing the song but not the singers. They're not the first, and won't be the last.

This thread doesn't make sense. Rosé is getting this much love and appreciation in SK bc she is an already popular singer from the biggest k-pop gg ever and after years of her career she got a mega hit ww where it wasn't thanks to an animation, movie, series like ? She was the face of the song.
In Golden case it's from a singer who were never on spotlight and even now she is heavily associated with Huntrix, actually my nieces and nephew love Huntrix, love their songs and have 0 acknowledgement about who are behind the scenes bc they got to know it thanks to the movie. It's not difficult to understand it.

What surprised me, though, was seeing that the president only congratulated Younchae just because she’s Korean, even though she didn’t perform solo.
nothing wrong with highlighting your own country, and I get it, but I think it was a bit awkward toward the other members present. I feel like he should have either just mentioned the group or no one at all.

They are all Americans and the Koreans tend to care less about Americans, even Korean Americans, than whom they consider to be their own, such as the person on the left of this post

New Zealander to be accurate. People are more familiar with Roseanne but not too familiar with the trio, even though two of them tried to eke out a career in Korea before

But still, shouldn’t the president of a country have known that the voice of a Korean was being used in a globally popular song, and shouldn’t he have mentioned Ejae’s name as well? Ejae didn’t act like a behind the scenes figure at all. She appeared frequently in the media and on television. From my perspective, during the rise in popularity of Golden, she was very much a known artist, both by name and face. I guess I’m kind of somewhere in the middle on this point.

I REALLY want to turn this into a Rei thread because I've been down bad for her for the past few months

do it, ill spam some EJAE and Audrey

and when were people familiar with younchae?
you think they're more familiar with her than ejae?
ejae was a key element that made that movie so succesful. she literally WROTE and performed the biggest worldwide hits. and she WON that damn grammy!

I fully agree with this because she was the face of KDH and Golden imo. I think they did so much of promotion that it was easy to identify that Ejae, Rei Ami, and Audurey Nuna were Huntrix. They were even able to perform on many global stages like NFL on Netflix half time show, Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade, Golden Globe NYE, etc. I guess most of their promotion was in the US, but is that any different than Katseye?
I feel it's not hard to mention at least EJAE because she was a key contributor to put Korea in a positive light across the globe.

totaly agree. like she deserved that recognition, she is korean and she was involved in the production of a globally famous song. she also performed as an artist. And I think she is actually an inspiring hero figure for young people in Korea, achieving success despite being outside the kpop system.
edit : And I expect a country's president to be more sensitive and knowledgeable in such situations.

I know SM has been thirsting like crazy for Western validation, and salty af about how literally every other label has had massive success in the US, YG, Hybe, even JYP Twice. And they cant get any of their groups to do anything in the West. Plus they have literally the biggest media company in Korea backing them, Kakao.
But even then, i dont think any of this silence about Golden's win is about SM/Kakao being so jealous they're stamping down on media coverage about them.
I think it's exactly what other people have said. Golden was from a cartoon. Nobody cares who sings it. Let it Go is a perfect comparison, a massive song that did nothing for Idina Menzel (actually it mightve hurt her after she screamed offkey for 4 minutes in that live performance in the Oscars or Grammys or wherever it was).
If Ejae and the others tore up the screen the way Ariana and Erivo did for the Wicked movies, it would be a way different story, Korea would have claimed them.

But did Idina Menzel perform live and getting exposed in american media? Because Ejae particually, Audriey and Rei are getting spotlights in th media. I would even more than any Kpop idols visiting the US.

Okay, you have a point, BUT let's remove every goddamn achievement of Kpop Idols, because most of them never wrote a single line in their entire career, yet they get all the praise when they win an Award, and not the actual producers and writers.
So yeah, you made a good point, because without Netflix "GOLDEN" would never win a Grammy, but we can say the same about most Kpop Idols as well. This is a double-edged sword.
For example: Most people only heard about Teddy, because he was a Co-Producer for Bigbang and made a lot of Blackpink songs. That's all. Isn't it weird that no one says: "Teddy only won a Grammy because of Netflix."?
Rose and Yoonchae are NOT popular thanks to their own names. They're popular because their agencies made them popular just like Netflix put AJAE and the others on the map, even though AJAE already wrote multiple hit Kpop songs. I don't want to say this again, but if people only talk about AJAE because of an animated movie, why can't we say the same thing about Rose? I mean, without Bruno she never would have had a success like this.
Again, this is such hypocritical thinking.
-
Pretty much everything you said isn't true.
PSY was never a Kpop Idol, and he has multiple hit songs not just "Gangnam Style". Outside Korea, sure most people know him because of that song, but not in Korea.
GOLDEN doesn't belong to Netflix. The song belongs to those who created it. You're mistaking "KPDH" with the OST.
-
Kiwi...but also hold Korean citizenship via birthright.
Both AJAE and Rei Amie were born in Korea.
Let's say it how it is. People in general, not just Koreans, don't give a flying fck about someone who's not popular. Idols like Rose have a free pass because she's part of a mainstream group, but she would get the same treatment if she's not part of a popular group.

Or you know what? Just shut the hell up and mind his own business. Politics. I never understood why politicians want to talk about celebs.
If a President could be more sensitive they wouldn't even be in politics in the first place.😂
-
I’m not really sure how it should be. But to me, it feels normal for politicians to personally congratulate people for cultural achievements.
