Should Kpop companies request and ensure their music, MV's and their idols images not be used to train AI?

  • Well? 7

    1. Yes. Absolutely, the companies need to block this. (6) 86%
    2. No. AI slop is the future, even if its theft, uncreative and environmentally destructive. (1) 14%

    I was reading this

Japanese Companies Tell OpenAI to Stop Infringing On Its IP
OpenAI has been catching more heat for alleged copyright infringement, and now companies like Square Enix and Ghibli have put their foot down.
    gizmodo.com

About how Japanese companies are telling Open AI that it is not allowed to train it's slop and hence the slop created by little AI wankers.

Should the Kpop companies be proactive in doing the same?

Is their ANY benefit at all in companies and idols allowing their music, mv, images and creative output be used to train this theft garbage?

  • you can tell them to stop but unless you have the financial and legal power to back up one's "request" what good does it do?

I remember reading somewhere that a whole bunch of authors and book writers took action against some of the biggest AI companies and they are stuck in litigation or something

I remember reading somewhere that a whole bunch of authors and book writers took action against some of the biggest AI companies and they are stuck in litigation or something

    It's George RR Martin

George R.R. Martin Is Carving Up OpenAI in Court, So Far
The scales have tipped in favor of the 'Game of Thrones' author and his cohort suing OpenAI, with a recent ruling advancing two additional theories of…

In terms of if companies can, When Creepy Sam Altmans company introduced Sora 2 video, initially it was anything goes. Which had immediate backlash by copyright owners, concerned about content made using their IP's. The OpenAI tried to say "ok, fine, Copytight holders can opt out of their stuff being used". Which wasn't enough, and by the sound of it, the threats of lawsuits etc made OpenAI then change and say that companies can Opt IN to their works being used to train AI. This actually made AI nerds and AI bros cry, which was excellent.

Sora, Not Sorry: OpenAI Backtracks on Opt-Out Copyright Policy
OpenAI, facing backlash, will now let rightsholders decide whether their characters appear in Sora 2, with revenue sharing for those who opt in.
    copyrightlately.com

So at least for OpenAI and Sora, kpop compaies need actually tell OpenAI that its ok to use their stuff, and not the inverse which is tell OpenAI to stop using their stuff. Its the other AI companies though

  • I think it was this one

Group of high-profile authors sue Microsoft over use of their books in AI training
Writers alleged that company used nearly 200,000 pirated books to train its Megatron artificial intelligence
    www.theguardian.com

and the judge would have ruled in the AI company's favour except

"The complaint against Microsoft came a day after a California federal judge ruled that Anthropic made fair use under US copyright law of authors’ material to train its AI systems but may still be liable for pirating their books."

  • So the situation is terrible, and I hate how AI is currently being used and developed, Sora2 videos make me sick in my stomach, and yes if any of those companies have a legal team worth their salt they should be preparing to take them to court.

The sticky situation is probably China and DeepSeek.

Yes, maybe they can take OpenAI to court in the US. Will they be able to take DeepSeek to court in China? Maybe I have a stereotypical view that is untrue, but I always imagine China as this lawless wild-west when it comes to copyright laws, especially on the international stage (ie. stealing something from another country).

  • Might be controversial I honestly don't really care

If people are allowed to use CHATGPT and use other AI shit I don't see why MVS should be different

You gonna tell me "oh because real artists blah blah blah stolen blah" so what makes us different and allowed to use AI because of your specific reasons to discourage AI usage for some but ok for others?

So... you're saying companies and artists shouldn't be able to control how their work and image is used, and should be ok with some AI incel bro making a video of Day 6 members reciting Mein Kampf?

  • a video of Day 6 members reciting Mein Kampf?

    Reminded me of this video

I think I read the title wrongly I thought it was about KPOP artists using AI and not KPOP artists getting their content used

Then again even if I think it isn't OK for KPOP to be used then what makes KPOP so special compared to others, and would be hypocritical for me to make them special

If we are against AI it should be for all things and not KPOP exclusive, and that includes stuff like CHATGPT

Thats the thing, they wouldnt be "special" by saying they don't want their stuff used for training AI. The articles I posted above talk about how many different companies, orgs and individuals are saying "no, AI cannot use our content to train AI, train LLM's or be used for generative AI"

Disney, all of WME's clients (who just signed EJAE), Paramount, South Park, Rick and Morty, Bryan Cransston, Aniplex, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Studio Ghibli, the estates of Martin Luther King and Michael Jackson and plenty of other companies and groups have all requested that their content, IP and likenesses not be used for AI training or generative AI use

And everything (and everyone) you just listed is going to be used by AI anyway. Resistance is futile.
