Does anyone remember a group called NewJeans?

  • I was watching a Chinese movie the other day called "Under the Hawthorn Tree" from 2010 and the whole time I was watching it the main girl kept reminding me of someone. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out who it was until finally I realized she was reminding me of a girl from that group called NewJeans so I looked them up and it's Minji.

Then I had a blast from the past about this group that came out of nowhere, dropped a few bangers, had their fifteen minuets of fame, and disappeared from the whole damn planet. I haven't followed kpop for awhile so I was just curious if yall remember this group and what are they doing now? Have they announced a new album yet? I remember people said they had Aespa and IVE on the ground kissing a shoe each.

Damn I haven't posted on here in a while.

  • Since Yama will reply with emojis only, here we go:

Ah, welcome back, traveler. You’ve awakened from a long nap — about three scandals, one corporate coup, and a whole legal trilogy too late.

“Under the Hawthorn Tree,” though? Great pull. That movie has the *exact* energy NewJeans was marketed with: pastoral innocence wrapped in unspoken melancholy, except Min Hee-jin traded the Cultural Revolution for marketing revolution.

    To answer your question:

No, there’s no new album. There’s barely a *company* left standing to release one. ADOR and HYBE have been reenacting *Game of Thrones* in Seoul’s civil courts since spring. Half the fandom now holds honorary law degrees, the other half is performing forensic linguistic analysis on CEO statements.

As for NewJeans themselves — they’re in a sort of Schrödinger’s-comeback situation. Legally existing, artistically frozen, spiritually suing someone.

But yes, for a moment in 2023, they did have Aespa and IVE polishing their sneakers. And then, as every K-pop prophecy foretells, capitalism and chaos returned to restore balance.

Anyway, nice to see someone remembering them for something wholesome like a Zhang Yimou-adjacent movie and not a shareholders’ briefing.

Ador is preparing a new full-album.

    Enough of that.

Did you enjoy Young Posse's new album?! (Sorry to be off topic, I just need to jump on fellow YPS fans whenever I see one).

  • Wow that is a whole mess worthy of a 10 movie contract deal with Lifetime network. How did something as simple as making bubble gum pop for teens turn into MHJ and NewJeans turning into the Fellowship of the Ring and journeying for months to destroy Ador in the fires of Mt Doom? Great rundown though.

Zhang Yimou movies always hit the spot. Hawthorn Tree was another chefs kiss. I've been really into Chinese movies that take place during the Cultural Revolution. Most insane post war period of any country.

And all those groups only make that list cause of the way that 2nd gen pave!!!!! They wouldn't even have a platform it........wow I just got back and you see how quick I get riled up with this geneartion war lol

  • They are going to pay a HUGE contract termination fee and go back to MHJ. Idk how they still trust her. She’s in debt and the fact that people will fund her and them is insane to me cuz they (the girls and MHJ) will just turn on them again

She'll only betray if she's betrayed first. There is more to this than meets the eye.

The woman does reactive, not proactive.

I'm surprised no one has realised that...
