  • Now here's a thread I'm willing to engage in.

Since many of you seem more capable of choosing favourites than myself, if you'd indulge me, may I posit this scenario:

Imagine it's the '90s, and you have a friend you want to introduce to aespa. In your possession is a standard cassette tape of 60 minutes (roughly equivalent to 15 songs). What does your Introduction to aespa Mixtape include?

You can include solos, and both Korean and Japanese releases.

  • since noone else is suggesting here

    1. Next Level

    2.Aenergy

    3.Spark

    4.illusion

    5.Whiplash

    6.Black Mamba

    7.trick or trick

    8.Next level habstrak remix

    9.Armageddon

    10.welcome to my world

    11. kill it

    12. drama

    13. Angel 48

    14. Iconic

  • First of all, thanks for indulging my curiosity.

I can definitely see the merits in this selection. By the way, did you mean to leave it at 14? If you could add one more track, what would it be? Do you mind me asking what it is about the Habstrakt remix that warranted its inclusion for you?

i forgot to include supernova so that !

buti just think that remix is amazing and it fits perfectly into what i enjoy about aespa

  • replace live my life with count on me and lucid dream with im unhappy (but idek if thats a bside tbh) and this is basically my list :pepe-tongue:

    Another very worthy pick.

Ah, I see. It's been a while since I've listened to it, so I had to go back and revisit it. It certainly encapsulates aespa's earlier sound nicely.

  • You know what? You're taking the words out of my mouth, I had a very similar idea! :pepe-excited:

Following yours this would be my intro to aespa mixtape :

    The tracklist:

    :lighter-pepe::pepe-grooving: :pepe-dj:

  • Thanks for participating.

This is another great selection. I'll tell you what: if you handed me a mixtape with this selection, you could very easily consider me a new fan. How hard on a scale of one to five was this endeavor? Based on the constraints of this imagined cassette tape, and excluding "Spark" and "Hold on Tight," which track that didn't quite make the selection was your most regrettable concession?

  • also sorry for taking so much time, i wanted to answer right away but the list took me some time to make and actually i was busy making my other aespa playlists which are like my ideal aespa EP with a pop/hyperpop/futuristic concept and i made this amazing mix:

    1. Supernova

    2. Angel 48

    3. I'll make you cry

    4. Iconic

    5. Lucid dream

I really love it, it's so fresh, pop, dreamy, airy, 'metalic' too...

with a blueish retro futuristic concept kinda similar to the savage art :excited-bee:

  • No worries at all. I saw that you were in the thread for some time and assumed you were writing a response after much consideration. Again, thanks for participating and indulging my curiosity.

With this particular playlist, I also see the vision. If you could release this as an EP, at what point in aespa's career do you think it would have the most impact or be the most beneficial?

Also, sorry if you feel I'm bombarding you with questions.

it wasn't very difficult actually cause i already made various versions of my ideal aespa album so i gathered alot of ideas already from there.

also some songs really seem like duos or triologies, they really get along well toghether in the tracklist like for example Supernova x Angel x Lucid dream (pop, futuristic vibes, dreamy) and same with Whiplash x Die trying and Armageddon x Dirty Work.

also generally i really prefer their music post 23 so it's no surprise many of my choices are like that.

and the tracks that didn't make and were a concession are Illusion and then Thirsty, Dreams come true...

    no it's okay lol.

actually i would have LOVED if they dropped that ep right after Next level instead of Savage. I guess this is what i wanted Savage ep to be and sound like. Specially the title track, i was so disapointed in Savage and it's lack of melodic chorus :( . I almost entirely dropped aespa after that. so this is like my ideal version of the savage ep i guess :wellr: .

somehow, supernova felt like a redebut for aespa for me. musically, artistically and conceptually it's the PERFECT song for aespa! and i kinda build the ep around that song. Angel being another powerful guidline/core track...

  • Well, I'm glad I didn't ask too much of you. I will say, seeing as how passionate you are, it doesn't surprise me that you were well-prepared for such a task.

Your mixtape selection feels like going on a journey with aespa. Book-ending it with the tracks "Prologue," "Live My Life," and "Welcome To My World" particularly struck a chord with me. Without getting technical, these three tracks occupy a sphere of sound that easily resonates with me.

I did notice a lack of their earlier music, but each to their own.

If you've noticed, I'm a huge fan of Ningning, and I love when she gets into her R&B pocket, so "Thirsty" definitely would have been a welcome inclusion.

    no it's okay lol.

That's understandable. It's no secret that their earlier music was quite divisive. If you remember our encounter a little while back discussing music, I think I illustrated that I have quite the varied taste in music, so aespa's earlier stuff wasn't really a big deal to me.

Yeah, "Supernova" definitely gave new life to the group. It's a very solid playlist and hypothetical EP. Thanks again for taking the time to answer all of my questions.
