I think there is no denying that Kpop nowadays is catering more towards the Western audience more than it ever was in the history of Kpop as a whole.

and with that, the use of English lyrics on a Kpop song have become more frequent and more intentional.

do you think this a good thing for Kpop? or bad?

what is your opinion on this matter?

what is your limit on how much English lyrics there are on a Kpop song?

how will this affect Kpop going forward?

  • I think 70 percent is my tolerance.

But, I think Babymonster's recent song 'We Go Up' seems to have a bit more than that.

The labels Must find a balance. Or input just a bit more of English lyrics, not over-salt it.

Otherwise, at that point, they should release English songs.

I understand appealing to the international fans outside of Korea; but, I'm sure many, if not all, have considered some of their favorites' music becoming very English-heavy and disliking it when they're supposed to be KPOP.

Am I personally worried? Yes, I am, if the labels do not turn things around.

  • It’s really hard to put a number on it, but I wish we could get more songs from big groups with a Korean hook or chorus. It seems to have died out over the last few years, but we used to get really memorable lines in Korean from big 3 ggs:

    Naega jeil jallaga!

    Sowon ul malhebwa

    Darun namja malgo. Noh~~~!

    Majimak chorom maji-majimak chorom

    Nan myonga dalla dalla

  • Another great hook in Korean

    Nat-bo, dan-nun, bam-eh, wa!
