Soyeon’s ‘Dam Dadi’ MV Director Admits Copying a French Artist’s Work _ and the Story Just Ends There, Somehow

  • Apparently, Yseult, the victim, is a French singer-songwriter.

She’s an independent artist who manages the direction and production of her own music and music videos. She publicly called out blatant plagiarism when frames from her music video “Btch You Could Never”* were copied

The director of the music video, Hong Minho, responded to the accusations… by scrambling for excuses and calling it "inspiration"

    Yseult replies :

So far, no compensation or credit has been offered. The video hasn’t even been deleted or edited.

Meanwhile, Soyeon fans are harassing Yseult, calling her and I quote — an “attention seeker” and on the other hand, Yseult’s fans are getting into the game and going just as crazy (where words have no barriers).. lol

The scandal was ignored (not exactly a new thing), which is ironic, because if the roles had been reversed, they definitely wouldn’t have stayed quiet.

Yseult, for her part, hasn’t given up and is still hoping for justice (or some cash )

Like, girl post on her IG story every second and comment on every TikTok post to be heard

  • I hope Yseult wins because this was theft and not inspiration. Nevies are embarrassing themselves by harassing the artist and sending racist remarks, and body shaming her because she rightfully called out the mv.

At first I didn’t fully agree with tagging Soyeon but after having some sleep on it, it was the best way for it to gain traction. Also, as an artist you have to be careful what you attach yourself to , and unfortunately she attached herself to this project that is surrounded by controversy. It’s obvious the director of the mv thought they could get away from stealing from an independent French artist

My theory is that Yseult probably wasn’t even aware of the plagiarism until one of her fan accounts tweeted about it ( i mean the m/v came out 2 months ago). I’d even bet that she has little knowledge of the K-pop system (entertainment, labels, production, etc.) and didn’t pay much attention at first because it was Soyeon in the video. She probably just assumed Soyeon was an independent singer like herself, without digging into who or where she came from. (Her fans made the same mistake at first, then later updated and just tagged the labels.)

That's exactly what happened. It was brought to her attention by a Yseult fan account. It also makes sense why she would think Soyeon was involved because the scenes that were plagiarized has her featured in it.

I'm unsure if the director will learn a lesson here, but it's always wise to contact artist that you're inspired by and get their okay. This all could have been avoided if they actually contacted the artist, but most likely thought they could get away with stealing from a french artist. Also, think they just didn't care anyways because there's been moments where directors will take anyways. I remember Lisa's director for her song Rockstar got declined for being inspired by parts of a Travis Scott video, and they used it anyways.

  • We all know they're copying Golden Child

HARD DISAGREE! The fact that Yseult included Soyeon in this made everything more toxic. She literally threw her under the bus, because she's the most popular one in this collab. So, what Yseult did was also disgusting!

Sure, the director copied her MV, but that's not an excuse to use Soyeon to gain attention and let people hate on her for ZERO reason! She has nothing to do with the MV, she only arranged the Chorus for the song. It's not her job to do research about MVs, it's the director's and producers.

It's a tricky situation because Soyeon's featured heavily in the plagiarized part. So, it made sense why out of frustration she mentioned her. She later deleted the Soyeon mention after she realized was just a featured artist. I don't fully agree with how she vented about it, but she called out everybody involved, and that's the risk of being featured on other's projects. It sucks, but once you attach yourself to a project you can be in the crossfire if things go wrong.

Personally, I think Yseult needed to research what her fan account showed her and call out the director of the MV. I don't think Soyeon needed to get attacked for it because she's just a featured artist. However, I think nevies escalated it whent they resorted to body shaming and throwing racist insults at her. So, I can see why she got angry and is now going scorched earth.

Just because she has a part in those scenes, doesn't mean it's her fault. She deleted that post, but now she's at it again on Twitter hating on Soyeon, btw. You can tell she loves the attention.

Sure, SOME Nevies are toxic, that's not really surprising in Kpop and on Twitter in general, but Yseult fans started it calling Soyeon a copycat, and mentioned other i-dle MVs and songs to prove she's always copying others. Both fandom doing nasty things, meanwhile Yseult just enjoying her 5 minute fame. Another example of women hating on women for no reason.

At least Soyeon didn't say anything, yet... She might write a diss track, tho.🤣

I haven't been following it that closely except for seeing the stuff where they're attacking Yseult. Overall, I think it's a messy situation because you're going to have stans on both sides taking things too far. Unsure if they're attacking Soyeon outside of music, but I hope they're not doing that. I think Soyeon being featured in the parts that's plagiarized is part of the reason why she's being mentioned. Also, think the other reason is biggest name attached to project, so mentioning her will get people's attention. I think for the artist her beef should be mainly with the director and not Soyeon if she's still mentioning her. I think part of the reason she might be mentioning Soyeon still is kpop fans are most likely attacking her

Also, I think its disrespectful to say it's her 5 mins of fame. For example she has the same amount of Spotify listeners as idle and she seems to known in the French music scene. That scene isn't that big globally, but she's respected in the indie music scene.

I didn't follow either, I just opened one of the tweets here and that's why I saw what she said.

I'm sure a lot of Kpop stans attacking her, but that's not an excuse for her to attack Soyeon when she didn't say a single bad word about her. Also, blaming her for some scene she was in is ridiculous and it shows how dumb people are these days.

It's not the same, but many people blame actors if a movie crap, and not the writer or the director. As you said, Soyeon is the only big name on this, basically, and if Yseult only mentions the director, no one would give a damn. That says a lot about this industry and music "fans" in general.

Sure, she might be popular on streaming, but didn't she say she's just an independent artist? This was the first time I've heard about her btw. Not that it matters, it's just shows that the "best way" to "promote" yourself is some controversy.

Again, this says a lot about music listeners.

    It didn’t end there.

  • Honestly, I think it's a good thing the ruckus was created. Kpop fandoms think they can bully everyone into submission. Now, kpop studios will know they can't just steal willy nilly.

The og artist wanted an artist to artist dialogue and apology when she tagged Soyeon but she doesn't understand kpop idols are basically leashed too hard to make any solo moves. Even if Soyeon wanted to say she's embarrassed to be part of such blatant theft she's not going to be allowed to do so.

I read that she actually has a habit of beefing with other artists

You know what? I think she can get whatever that is coming to her she is obviously still milking this for attention and getting the clout that she always wanted

Initially I thought she accused the wrong person but seeing this she obviously knows what she is doing and she is dying for the clout she is doing this on purpose

I have no more sympathy for her the fans can get her
