This community seems to dislike aespa. Why?

    All my aespa polls have been overwhelmingly dominated by the negative options. More AKP users than not think that they're not even good performers.


    I didn't get the sense that there was a significant negative overall sentiment towards them last year, but it is extremely noticeable this year, despite their most notable shooters doing their best to defend them ( SooYoung Taemin-Identity and Tatiana1820  foreveraespaaa )


    I'm not even going to poll this one. It's just an open discussion for the weekend that I'll start with this prompt:

    Cuz they mad that their faves got dragged by mys on twitter since drama era, and they couldn’t clap back at that time. That’s why they can’t get over it, and now they are using that chance.

    I’m not even a shooter like you, David, or some onces and blinks. Aespa gets much more smoke on Reddit and twitter.

    I could be a shooter on the level of twitter mys who can be very nasty, but I got school and other things to do.


    It’s not like aespa didn’t receive hate before. Even last year or prior to dirty work they got dragged a lot, for various things. To name a few: tone up cream, Thai farms, Chinese melon passes, kakao payola, concert drags, it girl topic and much more.


    Also, Hybe tag pr is working overtime.


    Ragarding akp, akp mys are the chillest ones across any platform, but as I said many people are hurt they lost fanwars with mys on twitter.


    The only thing I don’t understand is onces dragging aespa, cuz mys never fought with them. So I’m curious why they are acting up like that.

    This is what they say to get a free pass to hate on aespa without being questioned. But anyone who has been here for enough time knows aespa's been hated since their debut when they barely had actual fans. 2024 was, in my opinion, an atypical year where everyone was liking them — or pretending to like. We are back to normal.

    This was implicit in the word choice of "people don't even think they're good performers", which connotes that there are other aspects of the group that are being vilified on this forum.



    K-Pop twitter hates everyone, and K-Pop reddit hates any group that isn't BTS or the HYBE girl group they decide to token stan.


    But here in particular, I've noticed this past year that aespa has barely won any polls, anonymous or public.

    I like them, but I am not a fan of their 2025 title tracks. I enjoyed the b-side Count on Me and Angel 48, but didn't enjoy Rich Man or Dirty Work that much. I thought Dark Arts was their best promoted track.


    Now onto the performance talk. I think they've built a reputation of being average performers that lipsync too much. I think if a group is going to lipsync they have to be performing tough choreography. I think most know they can sing, but it doesn't matter if the mic isn't on for the majority of their performances. I think out of the popular 4th gen groups they're behind their peers when it comes to performances. I've said it before, but I don't think I can confidently say they can outperform Nmixx, NewJeans, Le Sserafim, Idle, Itzy, IVE, and a few other 4th gen groups. I think they can recover, but they need to turn the mic on because most people are forgiving of simple choreography if we can hear the group sing.


    Also, I think a major factor into everything is MYs are one of the most annoying fanbases in most spaces. MYs aren't bad on AKP but on social media they're always starting drama. Many were waiting for them to look weak to attack, and now here we are.

    As I said, most of these people are using twitter mys actions to justify aespa hate on akp.


    You can just go to any of your aespa thread or other aespa thread, and you can find “the way mys are so loud”, “mys dragged our favourite group”, “they started all the hate trains in the world”, and other similar phrases, and you come to conclusion that twitter mys trigger them a lot.


    Also you got bitter sm group fans *will not be naming names*, and people who disguise as “not aespa haters” but always have a negative opinion about them. So all comes down to this mess

    If that it true then Day6 would be the most hated group since they are the biggest BG and GG in Korea but they aren't hated as much from what I see

    But some people just love to hate them is also true. You can see genuine criticism and plain jealousy. or just trolling

    Imma rant about this since i've been bottling this up for over a year now:


    For some utterly mindboggling reason, MYs were #1 on the LSRFM hate train on TW.


    2024 was a civil war between Ador and Hybe, yet somehow it was MYs that were easily the most toxic along with Blinks. Tokkis were literally a distant third in terms of toxicity, even though it was their group that was directly involved.


    In actuality, i have no ill will towards the girls, my only criticism is their stage presence in live performances being lacking. In fact, i am smitten with Karina, everyone loves her visuals which are stupendous but it's her personality that really puts her in the stratosphere with the likes of even my fave Izone idols Minju, Eunbi, Yena, Yuri.


    I also consider Supernova and Next Level among the best 4th gen songs in all of Kpop, Next Level i think is still the best song of the past 4 years tbh.


    Plus some of the members are prob besties with LSRFM girls, i'm pretty sure Yunjin and Winter are close and maybe Giselle as well.


    However, that doesn't erase the stench of their disgusting fanbase on TW.


    I think i speak for all Fearnots when i say:


    We will never forgive.


    We will never forget.


    Hilary Clinton once said that "when they go low, we go high." So i say, let LSRFM take the high road then. They are saints, pure of heart, kind and gentle, without a mean bone in their entire bodies.


    Us Fearnots aren't bound by Idol Laws though. When they go low, we need to go even lower. Someone's got to do the "dirty work" to defend LSRFM's honor and reputation, it might as well be us.

    IMO it's never about the music. Most normal people just move on if someone's music is not for them.


    If you are a normal, well-adjusted person, you aren't going to take the time to constantly engage and be negative and shady towards a group that you "don't care" about.


    This happens to all the top groups though, and particular those with potential to be on a level outside of Korea

    I dont want to derail the thread but i would like to bring up a small example of this...


    Airport paparazzi for idol departures and arrivals.


    I see so many fans screaming about how unsafe it is for idols, how exhausting and scary it must be for them to be ambushed by dozens of cameras and obsessed saesangs etc etc.


    But the truth of the matter is that these kinds of chaotic scenes literally reflect how popular you truly are in Korea. The fans screaming to protect their idol faves, yelling at labels to stop leaking flight info, etc etc are being shortsighted and naive.


    Because the alternative to these frenzied mobs is silence. No cameras. No fans. No one giving a what about the idols. When idols can walk around in an airport without being mobbed, they are finished.

    Maybe they are making it more difficult already for groups like itzy, nmixx, kiii kiii, h2h, baby monster etc. Next generations might struggle even more.

    And then Army hate for aespa really reach its peak in 2021 when aespa release Next Level

    armynwere so sure that Butter was going to be this big hit that everybody was going to talk about and they were so mad that a rookie gg that they have been hating on for the past year was the artist that was their most direct competition

    Isn’t this always the case with leading groups! A tale as old as time?

    There’s always a hate train? Eventually once the group stops being active or releasing less stuff the hate turns into love or at least indifference!


    For most part a lot of people on AKP do just criticize them similar how they have with Blackpink or Twice etc it’s only a small group who use this chance to attack them repeatedly out of spite or whatever!


    In short I believe people criticise aespa as feedback. Similar to those calling Blackpink lazy/ bad performers or Twice can’t sing etc


    I think those that really dislike aespa it’s because they think they’re undeserving of what they’ve achieved/ have :( and would obviously prefer their favs to have it instead. Maybe they think their fav/this group can performer better or sing better or have better music etc but why are they not doing as well as aespa :?: it starts to turn bitterness and hate. Again since aespa is the active leading group currently it’s just the easiest target.


    Look how many people wanted Rich Man to fail :oops: Some voiced their opinion saying it wasn’t a good song which is fair enough but with others it came across like they are waiting for aespa’s downfall. Again it’s not a new thing for top leading groups at all It’s just more obvious this time maybe because other 4th gen groups aren’t doing as well :?:
