KPop's Greatest Irony - the ones who profitted the most were, those who contributed Most to KPop, and also the Least to KPop

  • Suga's return took place without any noise, showing the decline of BTS.

The so called OT7 proved to be empty.

Now the KPop era is ending, it is time to assess the winners and losers of KPop.

I won't list the losers. There are so many, it is not really proper to list them all.

The Greatest Winners of All are , namely, IU, BTS and BlackPink, in order of their debut.

The contributions of BTS and BlackPink towards the advancement of KPop do not have to be recited again.

And the lack of contribution of IU towards the world conquest of KPop also does not have to be recited again.

But, the cold reality is that although IU did not tour the world until her dotage in last year, she made more money than any BTS or BlackPink member, and was as highly regarded as them until last year.

Only the arrival of APT, which ended all previous Kpop arrangement, led the 4.5th gen (and beyond) of KPop to stop paying filial duty to her, someone who was a taker all her life, only taking from the global success of KPop without giving anything in return.

It was the worst combination possible which took place to undermine Kpop significantly and led to the reversal of Kpop's fortune in a lot of places, a combination of the Asian tradition of honoring one's elders, the refusal of Korean domestic music scene which refused to acknowledge the cold fact that it was no longer relevant, and a sheer refusal of melon to not disregard internationally irrelevant singers.

IU has ended, not because of her own will, her long career of ravaging KPop but she was replaced by folks who are even less relevant to KPop than her, like 10cm, Zo Zazz and Hwang Garam, whose names no non-Koreans care about. But it was wrong for KPop to allow someone who contributed nothing to it to rise that high to allow her voice influence KPop.

  • IU decline in his last release might be related to her focus on acting career. Maybe it is just me, but I think she is focusing much on her acting right now compared to her music. Even her last title track not her cover song, couldn't even get #1 on Kchart which is her fortress.

What decline? She literally charted with all the songs from that album, and it was just a COVER album, not a real comeback.

Not sure what "last Title Track" you're talking about but her last one is "Love Wins All" and it dominated the whole industry for weeks. Even outside Asia.

She basically forgot her roots, forgetting what made her that big.

She being shunned by Kim Taeri, etc was a big shock

  • In 2014, she vied for the control of KPop against EXO with her cover album Flower Bookmark I, which led to #1 in Gallup and won her the Lifetime Achievement Award from MAMA, making her the Senior Singer of KPop.

In 2017, Flower Bookmark II again put her at #1 in Gallup, plus its song Autumn Morning, released in a hurry, defeated BTS' DNA, BTS' last defeat to date and showed her power.

So no one really expected FM3 to flop like this.

Edited once, last by WhyKnock ().

A Top 3 Song on the circle chart is not a big decline.

  • Coin in 2021 was a second title song.

    It peaked at #4.

IU plays a professional gambler in retro-inspired video for ‘Coin’
K-pop veteran IU has dropped yet another teaser clip from her upcoming album ‘LILAC’, this time for the single ‘Coin’.

Ice Flower peaked at #8 (2011 non album single)

My Old Story peaked at #2 in 2014

Some of her OTS songs have not reached #1.

Nobody is perfect, not even the 1,000 year old.

  • The meaning of you more than made up for the flop of My Old Story

Coin was defeated by Rollin but Celebrity is known as the main title of that album

Ice Flower was a theme song for an ice skating show she was in, somewhat like into the I land, a signal song which peaked at #2

She sang several OSTs, but after Hold My Hand, which peaked at #9 or so , 10 years after its release, the only official OST she did was Give you My Heart for Crash Landing (the OST she sang at Hotel del luna was never released digitally, and the OST she sang in Tangerines was actually a cover of the original version sung by an indie artist d.ear. Still when that did not chart she should have realized that expectation on her releases was not the same as before but did not catch the climate.)

  • Sorry for the late reply. Holssi and Shopper not even reach top 5, that kind of things is not big decline for 99% kpop artists but from IU perspective that consider a decline in interest for her music coming from Korean public. Hitting #1 is very easy for her unless the song released at the same time with another big/viral song like Supernova & APT for example then it will makes some sense.
