Be honest: Have you ever done this to protect your bias? Does this kind of defensiveness make idols less accountable in the long run?

  • Be honest: Have you ever done this to protect your bias? 10

    1. NOPE (7) 70%
    2. OF COURSE (3) 30%

Right now some MYs and Karina stans in particular are dragging other idols when their fave did something that is considered controversial by knetz. This happens so often, not just with MYs btw.

When a K-pop idol gets called out for a controversy whether it's minor or major, instead of addressing the issue, some fans immediately shift the focus by bringing up scandals or problematic moments from other idols. It's the classic “Well, your fave did [X]!” deflection tactic. This leads to fandom wars and derails the original conversation.

Have you ever done this before? Be honest!

Also, does this kind of defensiveness make idols less accountable in the long run? Since they know, they got the fans on speed dial defending them all the time that shield them from criticism. Idols start to realize: “No matter what happens, my fandom will back me up.”

  • Nope, I haven’t and I don’t see the point in doing so.

If my faves make a mistake, I’d rather acknowledge it than waste time dragging other idols into the conversation as a distraction. Trying to deflect with “whataboutism” doesn’t help anyone, it just keeps the cycle of fan wars and toxic behavior going.

Bringing up old scandals or unrelated issues just to protect someone doesn’t make them look better, and it definitely doesn’t help them grow. Accountability matters, even in K-pop, and fans should be mature enough to admit when their fave messes up without trying to shift the blame elsewhere.

  • Yeah but the like half the ppl dragging Karina in the first place are prolly just ones that hate her and not really ppl concerned about any scandal so it goes both ways I guess.

For me personally it depends on the actual scandal. There are somethings which I don’t consider to be real issues and if you’re like hater who is picking on that issue yeah I’ll drag your dumbass fav who also does the same thing. If it’s a scandal which I truly believes criticism I keep quiet and never defend anyone even if it’s my fav.

  • i try my hardest to focus solely on the person and the situation

it is very difficult to not feel the unfairness when you see similar circumstances being judged differently due to certain factors

inherently defending people by bringing in similar incidents will lessen their accountability. it's literally the reason for doing so.

when enough fans come forward to defend a person, they can decide whether they need to speak out or not. they will have to weigh the positives and negatives when doing so

  • I will point it out when the people dragging stan someone who did the same or worse. I won't go dragging their fave if it's minor enough that I don't care about anyone doing it, but will point it out.

Because then you know they don't really care about the issue and just want to use it to drag.
