It seems subsequent KPop acts have a very hard time following the reach of BTS, Blackpink and ______.

  • Do you think any singer will ever outdo BTS, BlackPink and ____? 15

    1. Yes (5) 33%
    2. No (6) 40%
    3. Whyknock wrote this to include _____ in the league of BTS and BlackPink and that is not good (4) 27%

The reach of BTS and BlackPink around the world was amazing.

These stories do not need to be repeated again.

Unfortunately subsequent acts found it very hard to follow their example.

And there was _____, who was not impressed by the successes of BTS and BlackPink and always tried to undermine them whenever they could.

Most people around the world would have acknowledge their domination of the world but _____ was not impressed by that and continued to attack them until their heydays were over.

Now it is rare to have someone with such determination and hostility against KPop as well.

The irony of all is _____ also got to have a world tour despite of never charting in Billboard Hot 100 and never releasing an album in the West, because ____'s history of hostility against KPop became so well known that _____ became the anti-Kpop singer of the generatino.

So it will be hard to see future generations matching the reach of BTS, BlackPink and ____, which I think is unfortunate.

  • never say never

records are meant to be beaten

take sports for example whenever there is a great truly GOAT like figure people will say oh they will say their records will never be beaten etc etc

take ice hockey for example - to most ice hockey fans Wayne Gretzky is the GOAT of the sport and his name is known to a lot of people around the world even such as myself where I don't think Australia even has an ice hockey team???? That wasn't really the point though - the point was that even his all time career goals was recently overtaken by one Alex Ovechkin

who is to say there won't come a group that will not only rise to the levels of BTS/BP but overtaken them in the future?

  • I call the popularity of BTS and BP a blip, as a I don't think it'll ever be replicated, nor do I think K-pop will ever peak like that again. K-pop is on the decline, despite the profit and revenue it's still creating, as it's starting to fizzle. You only have to look at sales in SKorea over the past year to see that in some cases it has risen, while in others, it has started to flatline.

  • For another Kpop act to reach BTS or BP levels the conditions have to be right. I'll speak about BTS as a fan they had everything going in their favor when they first broke into the western market. The BG market was unfilled and Kpop was still very new and novel to western audiences. BTS did not have to compete with 20 other Kpop groups and that helped.

Kpop where it stands has wore out it's novelty and I think there is just nothing new that Kpop brings to the table anymore to make them stand out. But then again there could be a phenomena that proves me wrong and it just hasn't happened yet. Fifty Fifty was one of those with their Cupid song going viral

  • Because of demographic changes in Korea which registers fewer youths coming online and a sizeable portion of them have Southeast Asian mothers

So there would be fewer Koreans in purportedly Korean acts

Also the resurgence of country music has made sure there would be many more country singers competing against KPop acts

  • BTS was a whole movement. That will never be replicated at least by kpop.

Not it will not. It was on to something.

I have said a few times that Korea, which chose _____ over BTS in 2021,, was not a good base for BTS which was for the world. Such conditions don't repeat.

Indeed. No more new stuff. ____ was defeated by Bibi last year, but GDragon seems to be unstoppable. All the new acts cannot make a dent to him.

that all might be true and you can even argue that it would be extremely difficult for a new group to rise to BTS/BP levels but it's not impossible

there are groups like Gidle who's "foreigners" exceed the native Koreans but that doesn't prevent it from being kpop no?
