2018 is the single greatest year in K-Pop history

  • Is 2018 the single greatest year in K-Pop history? 16

    1. No (9) 56%
    2. Yes (7) 44%

I'm not even going to poll this (I have in the past, against other years), because I know you all agree.

It started with a boom. Or should I say Bboom Bboom

And all the groups were at their PEAKS around the same time. It was beautiful.

Oh heck. I'll poll anyway just to confirm that everyone agrees with me, and I'll make it public so we can shame the few who disagree

I feel sorry for all you K-Pop fans who didn't get to experience this year of K-Pop in real time. You missed out.

  • gonna kindly amp this thread because I like where is this going, not saying it's the greatest but it was great one for sure

  • Hell's no very overrated. And that even includes Izone's mid debut song lol. The only true megabops were What is Love and DTNA by Twice.

The greatest year in Kpop was one of the pandemic years most likely (2020-2023).

I am shocked to see this opinion from you. I expected you to come in repping IZONE and this is what you do?!

You have the WORST taste and takes ;judgingpepe:

Didn't you already make a thread like this or was I living in the future

It's possible. This is a stopgap for another thread I'll be making in the near future.

  • can't even argue much cause these two songs were released

  • 2018 was PEAK! That year was actually my first exposure to 3rd gen. I still remember my friends forcing me to learn idol names from groups like Blackpink and Red Velvet, and don’t get me started on Twice - shit was like learning calculus xD. But yeah I can't emphasize enough how much kpop had a chokehold on everyone that year, people were hyped, anticipated every new release, especially the countdown to DDU DU DU. Everyone in my class was stir crazy that day. But gee looking back I kind of regret being out of the kpop loop, especially since all my friends at school were so invested 😪

  • Depends on your definition of greatness.

    IMO, it is 2017

Mamamoo only had one comeback that year, so it can't be the greatest.

    That's my definition. :meme-oh-yes:

  • First of all, if you wanna argue that 2018 was the best year, you should've mention "Forever Young" from Blackpink, and not that hideous: "DDUDUDUDDUDUDUDU". It's literally making people ears bleed. 🤣

Secondly: 2019 clears 2018 in every possible way! I mean, look at this list! And this isn't even the whole list!

I'd add Wheein - Goodbye as well, and many other, non "BOP" musics.

  • monalisalove

You mean to tell me you freaked out about how loaded 2018 was but didn't honor my thread with your presence?

    SHAME

..What? 2019 was a terrible year for K-Pop. I think 2019 might've been the weakest year in two decades. People thought idols and idol music were FALLING OFF is how bad it was.

  • As I said in the other thread I don't have a fave year bc 2015 BB was gold, but BP didn't exist in that time...

But yes, 2015 and 2018 are top5 years imo and not just bc of my faves, but bc kpop music, content, funny moments, etc were peak excellence! Really a time where you can look back, listen everything again, watch everything again and in the whole time have a big smile on your face!

  • I'll reiterate what I said in another thread. 2018 was loaded.

    2018:

    Red Velvet "Bad Boy"

    BLACKPINK "DDU-DU DDU-DU"

    BTS (with everything)

WINNER "EVERYDAY" (and the continuation of their "Really Really" success)

    iKON "Love Scenario"

    Pentagon "Shine"

MAMAMOO "Starry Night" (and they were very active as a group this year)

EXO "Love Shot" and their whole Don't Mess Up My Tempo era

Chungha and Sunmi being the standard for soloists

Produce 48 and beginning of IZ*ONE (didn't follow either, but I remember the talk about them and liked "Rumor" from Produce 48)

    Momoland "BBoom BBoom" and "BAAM"

Seulgi, Chungha, SinB, and Soyeon collaborated for "Wow Thing"

    (G)I-DLE's debut with "LATATA"
