Stat Nerds, please chime in. Which NewJeans statistic is the most impressive?

  • The closest to it was Big Bang with the MADE series, and even that was "only" 2 songs not 3. The more you think about the stat, the crazier it gets. The songs didn't change positions for 3 straight

How did IU do with Palette, Through the Night and Can't love you anymore?

    And then Autumn Morning?

But 2017 was a crazy year in terms of competition - BTS, BJP, TWICE, BOL4,Ailee, Wanna One.. Heck even Sech Kies were back.

I don't think any song stayed at #1 beyond a week, probably the most competitive year so far.

    So maybe not.

  • I actually don't know since the stat was always specified as NewJeans being the first idol group ever but it never said artist.

Someone would have to check to see if IU ever pulled it off

maybe I was wrong that yama is a success fan???

maybe he is a statistic fan!!!

Definitely not. It's just a necessary evil :meme-u-ok:

  • I need to know what MassiveKpopFan and wsoet think. I honestly would've asked in the digital thread, but I didn't want to be accused of filling it with NJs glazing. Do I dare ask Disevidence to weigh in too? I do :eyes:

B, it's the only one that really takes into account seasonal variation and other factors to still persist.

"A" doesn't impress me because Ditto and OMG were released in quiet periods and all ranked charting is comparative. Of course it was easy for a hot new group with no competition to clear the charts for months.

"B" As discussed is over a year of seasonal variation and releases in the top 10, upon debut, with what was at the time a change in sound. Definitely the most impressive.

"C" and "E" are all temporal achievements that depend/use seasonal variation. Not that impressive. It's like IVE charting now top 2 with "200k uls". Used to need 200k uls to enter the top 10 in busy periods last year.

"D" and "F" are comparing against older records where due to Melon's previous structures movement and charting was more fluid, based on various factors. Melon's transformation into UL is objectively the right move and the best way to gauge charting on any chart I've seen, it's far more stable then previous iterations (except the short lived one for 8 months in 2021) and therefore comparing to songs from previous ERAS where songs were measured differently is pretty silly.

Only B is impressive overall, and easily the most impressive of the list.

  • I would say B and then F.

"A" looks impressive at a shallow level, but what matters is longevity than an interesting circumstance.

    That's B and F.

I don't give a shit about "eras", there is no definition or standardization of an "era", could be single, EP or Album, with or without MV, could be after year, or months or weeks or days.

    So Meh .

    B is my pick.

  • I should've tagged you as well, bbgc

I knew you'd both have an interesting perspective and approach to contextualizing these statistics. Always an insightful read.

  • People say this about every stat, basically, but there's no such thing is unbreakable records.

Well yeah but there're things more impressive than others. There isn't any artist that have occupied the top 2 of the charts for 3 consecutive months... NJ did it with the top 3. We're probably not seeing it again because no one was even close to do something similar. Can it happen again? Yes of course, if it happened once it can happen twice, but it is almost impossible.

    Hype Boy's continual charting.

Their first 3 albums all close to being above 2 billion digital points each

Every title track being over 100M on Spotify
