I think it's pretty much inevitable that Ahyeon ends up becoming the next big IT girl

    The more I think about it the more it makes sense. She's the most popular member of the most popular 5th gen big 4 group. Her visuals rival even Jennie Kim herself. Extremely talented and commanding stage presence with both her vocals and dance skills. If you watch a lot of their content, you can see she is clearly intelligent, hard working, and conscientious. She will only get more talented over time because of this.


    Also has that goofy introvert personality that a lot of people love and relate to. She interacts with all of her fans in such a genuine way, just an absolute sweetheart. All of her fancams and generally any YT video with her gets tons of views, her LeeMujin Service video even has more views than Karina's! It's just the perfect storm really. I'm not saying any of this is concrete evidence, and nothing is guaranteed, but I think it's only a matter of time.


    This is not a declaration of war, mostly just an appreciation of Ahyeon and my opinion.


    That's pretty much it, stan BABYMONSTER, stan 5th gen IT girl Jung Ahyeon.

    Ahyeon is great. The it girl game is different from the way it used to be, so things won't be the same anymore. I think the modern landscape hates YGE and TBL way too much for Ahyeon to become the next big it girl.


    New K-pop fans are extra critical about idols who rap. It's just not the same as it was during 3rd gen.


    Also, the new fans' attention spans and dopamine receptors are too messed up to sit down and watch content. We, as avid fans of BABYMONSTER, know what's up and will gladly watch the entire episode, but these others won't. They don't even know certain content exists! They rely on short clips to know what's going on.


    The game just isn't the same anymore.


    If it were up to me, she would be an it girl!

    I know it is an appreciation thread, but statistically there is 0 sign of any Babymonster member becoming an IT girl in 5th gen. And I think from the current groups like Illit, Babymonster and Kiss Of Life there won’t be any it girl.


    Here is most searched female 5th gen idols on naver(biggest searching platform in Korea) among teenagers. If you go with older age range then it won’t show cuz mostly teenagers will show interest in new acts in their rookie years, so this is a better indicator who is popular among teenagers.


    As you can see highest one is Natty and there is no Babymonster member. Even Natty is on 11th place, which means it is really bad for 5th gen female idols.

    As you can see Babymonster are in the last row and they debuted around the same time as Riize.



    So statistically speaking there is much higher chance of 5th gen male idol becoming an IT boy(Wonbin specifically) than 5th gen female idol becoming IT girl from those ggs that debuted so far

    Unfortunately, these are good points, but I will remain optimistic. The tides can always turn and they can turn quickly. Also, do these same sentiments also hold true in SK as well? IT girl is a case where domestic popularity is far more important.

    You really just couldn't let me have this one, huh? Really though this is pretty interesting, but not surprising. And these stats can just as easily shift in BABYMONSTER's favor in a short time. It may not be likely but Ahyeon will prevail.

    oh, I was referring to the stats changing, like babymonster can release a hit and climb on circle numbers pretty fast, search trends can change fast.

    Yes they can have a hit, but YG should try harder to promote them in Korea. Look what happened with drip as they performed in award shows and some other places…

    Yg should let them to do challenges with other artists, he should send them to more variety shows that people watch, let them do some free performances in big public spaces and etc etc

    They’ve been going on all sorts of variety shows that are popular in Korea. I-fans don’t seem to care as much about that.


    Also, BABYMONSTER doesn’t need clout from anyone else! That can do their own challenges by themselves. This is how much I believe in them. :yesr:

    yea I agree, the whole Drip promotion/rollout has been really good though. For this comeback they've done plenty of variety content, music shows, 6 MVs for album tracks, and the award show. Idk, maybe YG thought they could get away with low promoting at first cus of BP, but they have switched it up and it's working.

    As beautiful and talented as she is, I do not think it is Ahyeon. I think it is Natty. Who is also very qualified to be the it girl, she has been in the industry well over a decade and has proven herself not only as an idol but as a performer, dancer and an songwriter.

    Well imo Ahyeon is kinda in a similar position than Sullyoon

    They are both visuals who are more fitted for the previous generations


    Sullyoon have the dear visual like that was popular in 2nd gen with visuals like yoona, suzy


    While Ahyeon have a visual more suited for 3rd gen, classic asian beauty with the cold aura around her, like irene, jennie


    But 4th gen and 5th gen overall just seems to have switch about the expectations that people have

    And now what's popular is more the AI like visuals, the type of visual that make you think these girls doesn't seem real

    Like we see with Karina Ai visual

    Or Wonyoung doll like face


    And i just think that for the moment Ahyeon doesn't really fit into this AI like visuals


    And overall no 5th gen idols fit in this type of visual it's probably why none of them are really hype by knetz on forums



    I think ahyeon would have been much more popular if she debuted in 3rd gen


    But now her Classic asian beauty just doesn't seem as stiking thn it would have been in the past cuz we saw so many idols after the debut of Irene and Jennie debut with this cold classic asian visual that they kinda become "normal" in kpop and not striking as they used to be


    That's why idols like heejin, nagyung, etc... Who would have been really hype in the past didn't get as much hype than i think they deserve


    Now that the kpop fans public eyes got used to visuals like Ahyeon

    We kinda normalize this type of visual as being the standard in kpop that's why groups like IZNA who's full of visuals member don't have any member hype for her visuals cuz they all have the standard beauty for kpop now but none of them have this little somthing more

    Now kpop fans needs more, They need more wow factor and that's why currently Wonyoung and Karina are popular
