It's been 5 years since Twice last had a true hit song

  • Will Twice's next title track finally be their next big hit? 42

The result is only visible to the participants.

SNSD had a more recent hit.

I was just reflecting on third generation girl groups and this fact occurred to me.

If you really think about it, that's a crazy statement and fact.

Will Twice finally get their next big hit in their approaching comeback?

  • What do you think makes the song a hit? How high it charted? What exactly do they get from charting high, being in their 9th year? They have such an established fanbase and their tours are so successful, it doesn't matter if the song appealed to general public. As long as people support them, buy the albums and concert tickets, it's good in my opinion and they get the money from their work.

They're at the point in their careers that they no longer need to cater to the public tastes.

I'm their fan and liked their last releases, some even more than the early releases that are concerned huge hits. So I don't see why I should be concerned why the public or non fans thought their last songs weren't hits.

Additional question: why do you so often make threads about a group that you don't even like? Wouldn't it be a better use of your time to make good threads about your faves?

I'm always genuinely baffled when I see people spending their precious time on something they don't even like. But you do you, I guess.

  • It took me ten seconds of my precious time to make this thread. Your concern is appreciated but I don't think a random AKP thread is going to derail my plans for the day.

To answer your initial silly question, I can make threads about any topic I want. That's what a forum is for. If you want a safe space echo chamber, may I interest you in Reddit, where brigading and downvoting can suppress all opinions contrary to the toxic hive mind?

The best part is that I don't need to limit my topics to only the groups I'm the biggest fan of. I know you wish you could gatekeep me away, but that's not how online discussions work. If you don't like my threads, don't click on them. If you don't like me, block me. Otherwise, that's a you problem.

The real question is if charting is so inconsequential to you, then why does how a stranger spends their time discussing Twice's decline digitally trigger such an emotional response from you?

Your entire post reads like pure copium extract to me.

  • It's funny until you realize Korea already considers NewJeans a top 3 girl group of all time, according to this year's Gallup Survey, a status they reached in 2 years with only 16 songs, half of which are still charting, including 2 songs from their debut era from 2 years ago.

    They not like us.

  • How about don't try to assume what I'm thinking? It's not the first time you're trying to do that. I said what I meant and that's it. And it's so funny you say I'm coping, just because I have a different opinion than you about the group that I actually like and support.

Of course, you can discuss whatever you want, I could care less what you spend your time on. I never said I want this forums to be a safe space, I just personally don't see any enjoyment in spreading negativity and can't understand why people do this.

But what you call a "discussion" reads more like a passive agressive way of speaking about other groups and trying to put them down or prove they're worthless. Not to mention that I often see you generalise and act like what you say is the one and only truth (and god forbid someone shows you that you are wrong). That's not what discussion is, really. And I'm not only referring here to this thread but also others you made.

I guess you're right in one thing - it's better to ignore you and your threads, as I see you mostly post negative things, under the blanket of "discussion".

Well, a rookie doing well is no surprise.

Longevity is the real GOAT and the way things are going, NJ may not even have that.

A girl group selling out stadium after stadium without a hit song is more impressive in my opinion.

And don't get me wrong, but didn't your bestie David once say that Gallup was irrelevant. Those were his words, I'm just saying

  • Ah, yes. The wonderful implementation of rules for thee but not for me has manifested itself. If only it didn't get accompanied with so much whining, which is all you're doing. Whining about a thread you could simply ignore. It's not my concern or responsibility to make threads that don't ruffle your delicate feathers. And if you're going to complain, at least don't immediately contradict your complaint by projecting while whining about being projected on

    The complaint rings hollow.

Yes, you are coping. And add seething to that list too. Otherwise, you wouldn't be in here crying about the thread instead of just leaving your opinion and going on your way.

You can go discuss Twice's members, concepts and discography in your own thread if you want a tranquil, utopian thread where no conflict occurs and we only say nice things.

I'm not obligated to do that any more than you were obligated to click on this thread. So if I want to make a very VALID observation about Twice not having a hit song for half a decade, then tough shit.

Also, I don't need to be passive aggressive. I'm just aggressive when I'm trying to bury a group. Trust me, I could be A LOT nastier about this subject matter if that was my goal.

Clearly this thread isn't for you. You seem worried about how one's time is spent, so I find it curious you've now spent so much of yours on my thread. Don't you have better things to do?

Make sure to leave your vote.

  • The only people who think Gallup is irrelevant are the people whose favorite groups stop showing up on it.

Does David even know Hwasa was the highest ranked female idol? I've told him to shut up plenty of times, so don't for a moment think me and David are always on the same page just because we like Mamamoo.

Anyway, I never said touring well is unimpressive. That's not the point of the thread. Or I should just say:

    Who asked?

This is about having a big hit song, something we haven't seen from Twice in 5 years.

I asked a very legitimate question after making a simple observation.

People always downplay the importance of charting but get SO sensitive whenever someone observes how poorly a group is charting.

  • The feels was hit song by them at least internationally

    It was no Fancy

  • Everybody is attacking the user instead of discussing the topic :meme-disappointed:

    I didn't say anything offensive.

Unless discussing charts is now considered a capital offense :meme-gretchen-heart:

nah, just that everyone hates you, which you wanted.

I did discuss charts, which the biggest one on the planet IS Billboard top 200.

So spare me the headache or the victimisation.

Something something world's smallest viola (u don't deserve a violin for this, soz)

  • Not true. I've somehow managed to develop a small fanclub despite my generally antagonistic approach at times.

And the Billboard 200 is a chart that primarily uses sales data to rank artists aka it's not a purely digital chart like the Hot 100.

If Twice could top THAT chart, I wouldn't question their digital power in the slightest.

for future threads: don't ever start about digitals vs pure album sales. The money is so different we're talking thousand of dollars vs millions of dollars

  • I stand by what I said in my previous post and you proved it again.

    Have a good day.

This thread was clearly about digital sales. Everyone already knows Twice still sells lots of albums and tours well. I've literally never questioned the support of Onces. I'm a MooMoo. Nobody knows the importance of that better than I do.

I stand by what I said in my previous post and you proved it again.

    Have a good day.

And you proved everything I said, just by responding again. My day is perfectly splendid so far but I appreciate the well wishes xoxo

  • another PSA for you: Twice releases on Friday at midnight to go for US and JPN charting. Not SK charting.

    Does that make sense?

That's standard now for most groups. Monday releases are becoming a thing of the past. So yes, it does make sense. But weekend releases never suppressed a hit song ever, other than short term impact on unique listeners.

People seem to think I'm just waiting to bury Twice if they don't chart well, but I don't go for low hanging fruit or pick on groups when they're down.

Well unless I'm antagonized and provoked.

  • Twice are the example of a perfect idol group. Their music was never good and that’s not why they became popular.

They are good performers who really showcase what it means to be an idol and that’s their strength. A side effect of being great idols is having hits during their early career as they were also trendy. They built a loyal fandom which is far more important and that’s what GG’s found difficult to do and that’s why they’re special.

SNSD is meaningless as group and the songs they release is just for charity. They are neither active as a group nor will they ever make as much money as twice as a group

This is true for most 2nd gen GG’s. They never had anything going for them nor were they interesting enough to ever truly build a long lasting fandom.

And no SNSD or 2nd gen group don’t really have any lasting fandoms. And if they did have some small fandoms their own idols don’t believe enough in their fandoms to make being an idol a career.

:meme-u-ok: not you saying this when they yeah, became popular bc of their music? Their 9 #1 trajectory is huge and after years of success in kpop, sure they declined hit wise, but it was thanks to their early music they got such a huge and loyal fb that keeps increasing also with their fan content.

Visuals matter, but to have people to pay to watch you perform is obviously bc your music is liked so yeah, they became popular bc of their music and others facts.

That was such a freezing cold take that I think I can store my frozen deserts and meats in it. Holy.

I wouldn't even know where to start with all of that, but it would probably be on that last tangent about SNSD having no fandom.

I guess charity songs regularly become top 5 hits.

I ignored the 2nd gen quote bc imo it's aaaall wrong... But twice one was unbelievable... Obviously they became successful bc of their music.

  • If you don’t buy charts, then there won’t be any hit, or rather playlists and autoplay. A hit is not about quality, but about promotion. If we take APT for example, this is a good, funny track, but I don’t hear it anymore and I’m unlikely to listen to it in the future, nevertheless, its numbers are simply crazy and it’s a hit.

  • I'm going to save this post so that I can successfully bait someone who doesn't remember this in the future.

I don't know why people act like this era didn't exist for Twice, and how they haven't approached this level of digital dominance in a long, long time.

I certainly remember it very vividly. And Onces bragged more back then than I do now about NewJeans

  • Wait, was I a successful casual?? Bc i like twice songs that were hits :pepe-narrow-eyes:
