Tattooing has become widespread in Korea, with the number of tattooed people reaching 13 million, and opinions are divided over the "no-tattoo zone" in luxury hotels.
According to the industry on the 22nd, a number of major five-star hotels have recently opened no-tattoo zones.
The Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, has a policy that states, "Guests with excessive tattoos on their bodies that may cause anxiety or discomfort to others may be restricted from entering the gym, pool, or other facilities."
The neighboring Fairmont Ambassador Seoul also restricts access to the pool if you have a tattoo that is "15 centimeters or longer. To use the pool, guests must wear a swimsuit or patch that covers the tattoo."
Not only hotels, but also gyms have been popping up one after another.
In July of last year, the YouTube channel Jambaekee posted a review of a gym in Gangnam, where one of the conditions for entering the gym was to "refrain from exposing excessive tattoos."
If you have a tattoo that almost covers your arms or legs, you are required to wear long-sleeved and long-pants workout clothes.
Many other gyms have restricted access to people with excessive tattoos.
While some people say, "Tattoos are just personal freedom," or "Stars like Lee Hyori, Jungkook, and Han Sohee have many tattoos, so it doesn't matter," others say, "It's better not to show them in public," or "It's better to refrain from showing them to children."
Under the current law, tattooing is a medical procedure and is only allowed by state-recognized medical practitioners.
