Magnetic was also a much better and catchier song. And this was when BeTHIEF was still borrowing heavily from the NewJeans concept playbook they stole from ADOR.
Now their creatives have to actually do their job and avoid any uncanny similarities to the group they borrowed heavy inspiration from.
So far, it's a fumble. I don't wish ill on ILLIT and do not want to see them fail, but it's clear why the results so far have been midling and that was clear to me before the new album dropped. Hence my predictions.

I don't see it happening. If ILLIT had the spotlight to themselves, they could rise, but having such a weak start while aespa and the BP solos/colllabs are popping off will completely overshadow them.
Releasing songs at the same time as other big names is a high risk high reward strategy.
Either the rising tide will lift everyone or it will drown and bury the smaller ships.
There is no middle ground.

No, it's a perfect description. YG music is what made me a K-Pop fan, so I know when I'm hearing the same sounds and seeing the same concepts that company literally used even BEFORE the 2010s. They aren't innovating a damn thing with their formula and the songs they've promoted have ranged from trash to mid, other than Like That, which they can thank Charlie Puth for.
Talented idols with bad music is the trajectory right now.
Maybe GD, the King of K-Pop, can save them. But now BM is operating in a deficit with the Korean public when it comes to tuning in for their music.

I don't disagree with the comparison, I disagree with you saying they are already NMIXX when they have 5 songs and are far more successful. So I agree they are on the trajectory, and I'm probably being extremely optimistic, but I'm hoping that can change.
ILLIT isn't a surprise to me because I said months ago
The biggest difference between ILLIT and NewJeans' debut success, from my perspective, is because I feel like Magnetic, the song, is popular, but ILLIT, the brand and It's members don't seem to generate that much interest.
That's one of the reasons why despite Magnetic's amazing performance, Lucky Girl Syndrome wasn't even close to be a success either domestically or internationally, despite having similar approaches to NewJeans' tactics with multiple MVs and performances/promotions for more than one song in the album.
NewJeans, the brand, was impactful. The members were everywhere on Korean forums as soon as Attention dropped after that as well. They made not only Attention a hit, but also Cookie and, especially, Hype Boy. This is one thing BSH will have to sweat If he wants to remotely replicate.

Honestly, I was surprised they went with a soft concept, considering 4 out of the 5 girls give off total girl crush vibes. You could already tell just from watching runext. But hey, Magnetic is doing really well, so it’s a big win, even though the concept feels centered around just one member. Now, I’m more curious how Belift plans to promote them individually since most of the girls seem to shine more with a dark and badass concept rather than the childish image they have now. It’s also kinda surprising they haven’t gotten many CF deals yet (as far as I know) like, that’s one of the things that made Nj stand out since the beginning. Why not follow that formula instead as Hybe must have huge connection with people in the industry to pull that.
All the auto play and playlisting in the world can't manufacture a hit for a song the people aren't really vibing with or Katy Perry wouldn't have flopped so badly.
It IS still early, but so far their explosive debut song is tracking towards being an outlier and not their standard, which is what I predicted months ago, based on the lack of hype around the group itself and the lack of any noteworthy numbers from any song not called Magnetic.
The fact this was being propped up against an album that is already the most streamed girl group album in K-Pop history is still offensive to me.
