YG's production company is reportedly behind controversial drama 'Joseon Exorcist.'

According to reports, the reason why Chinese-style props and historical distortion was discovered in the drama causing controversy was due to Chinese capital input.

Regarding this, the production company explained, "Unlike other sponsored and production support in China that has become an issue recently, 'Joseon Exorcist' is a drama that was 100% produced with domestic (Korean) capital."

However there are doubts that the drama's production company, YG Studioplex's parent company, was indirectly influenced by Chinese capital due to YG Entertainment's Chinese investor, Tencent.

The 2nd largest YG shareholder was revealed to be Shanghai Fengying Management Advisory Partnership who's parent company Weiying (China's #1 online ticketing company)'s 2nd largest shareholder is also Tencent. Tencent owns 4.3% stake in YG Entertainment through Tencent Mobility.

Also, fact that Park Gye-ok, the writer behind 'Joseon Exorcist' recently signed a contract with Hangzhou Jaffing Pictures Co., Ltd, a large content production company in China was also a source of controversy.

Writer Park and YG's Studio Flex caused further controversy over historical distortions in tvN's 'Mr Queen'. The drama portrayed the Annals of Joseon Dynasty (a national treasure in Korea) as "a piece of paper" causing controversy.

In the meantime, due to further controversies over historical distortion, dialogue and use of Chinese props, costumes and food and after losing all sponsorships, 'Joseon Exorcist' announced cancellation after airing only two episodes.

    1. [+2,071, -4] YG Studioplex, Crave Works, Lotte Culture Works are all China 🐕 dogs that need to be boycotted off the industry. If they realize that content produced with Chinese money will never make it to broadcast they wouldn't think of doing things like that again!
    2. [+1,258, -7] If its a fantasy drama then keep it to fantasy. Why bring in real characters and throw insults in the face on our ancestors??
    3. [+1,084, -388] First we elected the wrong president and now these thugs are infiltrating everything now including our dramas..
    4. [+552, -3] How was all that just a mistake..? Even a passing dog will laughㅋㅋㅋㅋ
    5. [+415, -6] The modern version of Lee Wan-yong. Let's punish ba$tards that try to sell out our country
    6. [+213, -0] A mistake is a mistake but how do you have Chinese food, swords, music and even palace decorated in all Chinese props..? Even gisaengs aren't dressed in hanbok??! It's obvious they were influenced because of all the Chinese money they took in.
    7. [+143, -1] Our history and culture is the pride of our country. How can you just ignore that for money? I get making mistakes with props if you're an amateur in the industry but this was intentional. They planned to sell out our country to the Chinese!
    8. [+135, -0] If they kept broadcasting this as is, over the years Chinese would say, "look even your ancestors were part of China and ate our mooncakes and played our instruments..."
    9. [+87, -2] Throw all the drama staff and it's pro-Chinese writers out forever! tvN is problematic in itself too. Investigate all Chinese capital they took in. Look into Joong-ki's Vincenzo and 'Mr Queen' too.
    10. [+16, -0] Ah~ YG just can't seem to stay out of trouble ㅋㅋ
  • Tencent owning 4.3% is nothing, people are blowing up how much China has invested in YG when they have invested just as much if not more in other companies.. I bet Korean companies have huge Chinese investment.

  • netizens are really mad. I wonder how this will end :mukbang:

Drama for a while then dies down like everything.

Is YG responsible for making the drama or just sponsoring it?

They were one investor out of like 20+

Maybe they dealt with the production of the drama alongwith others though. Nationalists just want to rage at something and thats obvious with how they are bringing up Mr Queen.

  • They do, do you not see the outrage? Theres many groups involved but the most well known ones receive the most hate.

    Lotte is a multinational conglomerate.

It is very well known in SK.

But i guess to you if a group of people commit a crime the most known person among them should receive the most hate.

  • They are mad that Chinese invested money into their TV, Movie etc, lol. they should stop eating Kimchi then, 95% of kimchi in Korean is inported from China.
