Why are K-pop fans so desperate for their favorite girl group members to become solo artists?

  • Some members aren't just cut out to be solo artists. Even the best frontmen in rock 'n' roll were never meant to be solo artists. Just because you can sing doesn't mean you should be a solo artist. First of all, you have to know what you are as an artist. And most of them haven't even bother about songwriting, let alone about how to go about writing a good song-- and not just to throw out a "concept" and be done with it. Otherwise, it just rings hollow, just going solo for solo's sake-- just to say you ventured out and went solo. Remember when solo artists used to go out on full albums, now we got "solo artists" with, at most, two songs. Give me a break.

  • Why is songwriting so important? In my country singers rarely write and no one care as long as you are a good performer. Do all solo artists in Korea write their own stuff?

I do agree that ggs fans want everyone to go solo regardless of potential. #freeXXX

    Your average ggs enthusiast...

It's not just about songwriting, because nobody writes their own songs anymore. It's about having an artistic purpose and some merit.

  • So you're saying the only "real" solo artists under YG are Jiwon, Taeyang, GD, Daesung, Mino, and Bobby-soon to be joined by Seungyoon? Based on full albums and an accompanying "artistic vision," that is. They used to have what you define as female solo artists in Gummy and Lee Hi. Anda has only release one song since signing with YG. Based on your definition.

  • For me personally, it's fun to see artists go solo to see their own individual flavor and direction on full display. To the extent tho, I can see people wanting artists to go solo regardless of whether or not they are fit for it. Though, even if some artists aren't as good solo doesn't mean they can't go solo at all. Like artists are definitely capable of growing into better solo artists so I think if an artist really wants to go solo, I would want to encourage that and help them grow.

Songwriting isn't a big deal in the current landscape. There are a lot of popular solo artists in the west for example who use ghostwriting so it doesn't matter whether or not the artist writes their own songs. I personally don't care as long as whomever the lyricist is, comes up with good lyrics.

  • Bc fans can want whatever to their faves specially when everybody knows how groups don't last long enough for you to just focus on your group. Having solos actives specially being a soloist is a guarantee to at least having a decent fanbase to make sure that your future is ok.

And not at you discrediting I don't know who :clown: just bc you don't know companies have employers with the purpose of doing a whole concept, music, management and everything involved to help idols with their career.

And i hate how you made this dumb thread just about FEMALE IDOLS.

    Pathetic.

  • I hate ask these gatekeeping bullshit about artistry. You listening to pop music at the end of the day, it's not supposed to super deep or have some kind of lore behind it. Kpop in particular is notorious for being heavily manufactured and controlled.

Writing a song doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. What if it's a a shit song? What if it flops? What if the lyrics aren't good? Does that mean the sing writing "artist" is better than another idol who didn't write lyrics but their song is much better liked and praised?

Writing is also only 1 part of a song, what about actually creating the song (instrument, mixing, etc) which very few idols. Hyoyeon isn't a great singer, nor a writer so she doesnt "qualify" to go solo but she's one of the rare idols who actually creates her own music and actually puts out some good songs, better than artists idols.

Then why bother? Other than for a little cheap fame.

Bc it's what they love and want to pursue. Bc it's literally what keeps food in their table. Bc you don't need a reason to do things just bc people like you don't see the logic without understanding that they are doing what they do bc they like it.

This is not a validation case, this is people professional life. You don't need to know why just bc you find it miserable. But you do need to respect as you are no better than any of these females idols!

Well, from an audience point of view, it just rings hollow. I prefer artists to be artists, and not socalled professionals and careerists. I want a professional when I having something done to my house. For the arts, I don't much care for professionals or careerists.

    the illusion kkkkkk

You are really throwing this whole illogical thing judging a whole group of girls just bc you don't like their way of being soloists?

Move on and understand that nobody is obligated to satisfy your taste neither be to your liking. Move on and understand that your opinion is just rude and not a critic with points made, just a plain rude point.

If you don't like something, YOU stop listening or even interacting with this something. This way you will be happier and without being sour.

    Not just "girls," boys too.

  • Of course this thread is made about female idols. What’s wrong with them going solo? Do you attack men who aren’t entirely involved in songwriting or production?
