    It just seems so odd

  • i search for a lot of japanese art videos on youtube and sometimes get into this dark loophole of japanese videos that the english side of youtube never suggests

ive discovered so many GREAT japanese songs that i dont know the name of and dont know where to find

many of them dont even have one mil views

but man there's so many good japanese songs out there

just really really hard to search unless you are japanese

  • I don't know about superior but japan has a music scene that's a better fit for me, personally.

I've always been more into rock/electronic rock/dark wave than pop music and while I enjoy kpop, I honestly only enjoy it in small doses.

What I will say is that, in my experience at least, japanese lyrics tend to be superior. Songs often tell whole stories and the artists don't shy away from dark topics either. I've never had a Korean song make me cry but I distinctly remember crying the first time I listened to Arigatou by Kokia because it hit incredibly close to home at the time.

Japanese people may not discuss their feelings as openly as westerners do but many artists go all out when it comes to lyrics.

  • JPOP it's my obsession....

JPOP has JO1, OWV, WE:A, IVVY, MaisonB, Bugvel and Fave1

that's all you need to know

Plus some of my absolute favorite songs from Kpop artists are their japanese releases.

    :siptear:

    I rest my case lol

  • Japanese imo. Though I might be biased because I am into different kinds of Japanese entertainment lately and in my bored-of-Kpop phase.

I always knew about it but it was always hard to follow compared to Kpop because of many restrictions and zero global promoting. Now that there is a bit more exposure, I have fallen for it.

  • If anyone wants to know what type of JPop I'm mainly into, since thats maybe 70% of the music I listen to at the moment, here is a small selection of songs that I would recomend to everyone to try out ~

  • There's not even a debate, it's Japan from afar. The only thing that Korea has produced is kpop as much to say that artistically speaking it's tragic.

The issue with I-fans is that you’re assuming that the kpop idol scene = Korean music, which is not the case.

A more fair comparison would be between Kpop groups and j-idols like Johnny’s and the AKB franchise.

Just because idol groups are the only part of Korean music that is well known internationally doesn’t mean that’s all Korea has to offer. It has its own indie scene, rap scene, RnB scene, etc etc.

  • To my knowledge he japaense music scene is much bigger, broder and more differentiated, especially when it comes to rock and electro kind of music. So it all depends on what you are searching after. I you only look at pop-songs, I would say in general kpop have better songs that jpop. But a group like Perfume kick ass with most kpop groups, but kpop have many more good groups with good songs, compared to jpop. But if you want other stuff than pop-songs, I would say Japense music have much more to offer.

  • Just because idol groups are the only part of Korean music that is well known internationally doesn’t mean that’s all Korea has to offer. It has its own indie scene, rap scene, RnB scene, etc etc.

If everyone has given a shit about the Korean music scene forever, there's a reason. Artistically they have no influence and have so far produced no artist with significant artistic influence.

The only thing they have been able to do for the moment is to have given a second life to the idol models by rejuvenating it and exporting it in a brilliant way. But that's a commercial success, not an artistic one.

Japan on the other side have succeeded in creating and having an artistic influence with in particular city pop.

So yes there is no debate. Musically Japan is hands down superior to South Korea.

If you really love something, you have to know how to let go.

  • I have to give it to Japanese songs. Outside of my kpop faves, korean music barely interest me. Meanwhile i can spend hours to explore random japanese songs

  • Japan has Mariya Takeuchi. So Japan wins.
