Do you agree that sometimes not skills but person itself is overrated/too much talked about?

  • Like person does too little, yet you will constantly hear about him/her, and going viral for this or that

like for example you know that she is great dancer but this ain't it yet, the last songs, behavior ain't it yet people still praise her

or he is a great singer and shows it often but in same time he sounds rude and behaves weird in life, being problematic and controversial but peeps still love him

is it one of those situations when skilled Idol is kind of becoming more like western celebrities that we all know and we can sum them up as "good singer, but not a role model" or "great dancer but not a good person"?

I'm curious do you sometimes also get the feeling like that ideals that are built in Korean and Japanese Idol world are kind of startin to fall apart like the Tower of Babel?

ah and ps: there are also opposite situations when person ain't skilled much and we all can see it, but he or she is pretty and nice so let's clap your hands everybody and pray to the Goddess of God of visuals who's just 79% lacking but is like perfect 21 year old by looks xD

  • This is something that happens over and over when I watch produce series. Their rankings affects overall perception about their skills, they immediately start to get praised once their ranking starts growing. I see sub-average trainees getting many vote for Killing Parts and Centers only because their ranking skew other trainees perception

Koreans are more inclined to appreciate and laud you only if/when you achieve a certain degree of sucess, until there you'll be considered lacking

  • Idols do the most basic gentle things and are treated like gods, the best person in the word. Let's not start with the "x is so professional videos" that most times are they doing basic things too. If the microphone dropped, of course they won't stop the performance and make a fuss :pepe-tea:

For this problematic vs talent, I actually don't know a lot of idols who did problematic things enough to be perceived as bad people and not be hyped for their talents. I was searching boygroups a lot these days, I did find a lot (domestic abuse and other nasty things), but they were kicked out of their groups. Usually popular idols hide things better, so it's hard to have a reason to say someone isn't a good role model or good person.

  • Very true idols do get over hyped for nothing and the artificial popularity by fans constantly fudging the numbers and people seeing the high numbers immediately take it means xyz is literally the best in the universe without even fact checking it to be the case. Example a idol could go on tv and cook one basic meal and boom they are now 3 star Michelin chef god of Gordon Ramsay and the person who invented cooking 🤡🤡 like bruh really?

Fans will convince your their fave invented music and is responsible for economy. Im waiting for the fans to sell me world peace I'll buy it when a idol can goto the UN and end the war in Ukraine with just a word

  • A lot of Kpop stans don't stan for the idols' talent in the first place so they are lenient about that and some of them consider visuals or what they call "stage presence" and "facial expressions" as equal to real skills like singing, dancing or producing.

Problematic idols could got away with a lot more during the second generation. Look at these problematic male idols who are still working within the industry. It also depends to what extent they are problematic but I consider singers as artists not as role models.

even a personal critic over something you don`t like over your faves is taken as hate. So i tend to keep my thoughts to myself.

is a good way to have only good reviews

the other one is bulling the users out if you dare to say some wrong about other people faves in this site. For example there is a fandom that can shut your post with 0 good reasons. I have been served with the word "problematic" when/and the thread never mention their faves, just "hinted". That how the power of "implicit threat" works.

the "someone was the most voted in their team, so of course they are good performers" Idk, maybe they're just... popular? And popular for visuals or some sad storyline.

The trainees have this kind of mindset too, for Say My Name some low ranked trainees that fitted the song were kicked out of the team. While people blamed the popular trainees, the low ranked trainees took part of the vote too, and they were like half of the team, so of course even they favored popular trainees in their votes.

Yes, it's happens frequently. In Say My Name Seungeon pretty much given up main vocal and sub vocal 1 positions only because Matthew and Sung Hanbin were there, he was going to get a small part if Jiwoong didn't voiced he should get Matthew lines

Look at how Hanbin also shared the same concerns as Jiwoong, but purposefully choose silence, but almost instantly took Jiwoong side and voted to give the lines to Seungeon (glad they did, Seungeon is a great singer)

  • people keep hyping up some idols as funniest people ever

    But they are not funny
