I can't deal with this corporate job anymore😭

  • I worked for a small company and I loved it

A big corporate bought them out and everything went to shit

Now I'm moving to another small company. I do hope they last atleast 3 years before getting bought out.

  • Bad news to share that toxic boss and co-worker and work is prevalent. I've worked in international development (UN, iNGOs) and the private sector, and it sucks that so many people get away with being so toxic at work, especially in organizations where they are suppose to be respecting human rights and be fair lol.

They can really cause such a devastating impact too. I've gone through several encounters. One organization has never recovered, another company is doing fine but they are so fake, and the worst case caused me to be so traumatized. It took me about 2 years to recover from it (the gas lighting aimed at me by the project directors was something else!!). I was vindicated after I left when the people I tried to warn finally realized I was telling the truth etc. I left a job I loved for my sanity lol. Looking back, I have a thicker skin now and have more sensitivity to detecting toxicity level in a workplace. Since then, I've turned down several job offers because I was able to tell that there was something off about the opportunities. Sometimes those multiple round of job interviews are really important and it's important for you to do homework on the organizations and companies before accepting a job.

OP, I hope you can find a new happy job that you will enjoy!

  • I had no choice but to keep going since I need the money.

But sometimes I wonder what if I just throw all of this away and living in a village?

I need the money too but I have a dick of a boss who hardly gives me any shifts. I wonder how he thinks I am to make ends meet.

  • Best scenario is bite the bullet, get some experience while you're at the job and try to see if you can find anything else outside whilst still on said job.

Maybe Im the lucky few, but all my mangers were pretty reasonable and understandable~

    ---======---

  • I don't even hate my job, it's the long hours and the attitude of my coworkers that kills me inside.

I work 10 hours per day, 5 days a week. That's 50 hours on a 40 hour contract and only 10 additional hours per month are paid overtime. Do I get a thank you for working so many hours for free? No. I get asked why I haven't come in on Saturdays and Sundays lately. Because most of my older coworkers also work Saturdays and Sundays, despite the office being officially closed. Some don't take a single day off all month, clocking in at 60+ hours per week because apparently "that's what you do if you care about your job".

It's made me realise that I really don't care about my job and that some people just live to be exploited.

    I quit my job today

Yeah I quit my job today

    I quit, so go away

Cause I’m sick of all these sad songs

    I quit my job today

Yeah I quit my job today

Tell the boys I’m on my way

Cause I’m sick of singing these love songs

Especially in the work I do. Housekeeping not good for backs especially with arthritis such as me.

  • That could be true in my case, I can't stand mine.

ah have you tried applying elsewhere my friend?

Yes to this fact. I would take a pay cut for a job with great co-workers and meaningful outputs over a high paying job with terrible manager and co-workers.

I think there was some study that showed as long as "an underlying appropriate wage was met" then job satisfaction > $$$

Not yet and besides I don't know what else to do as I now have oesto arthritis in my back and I can't have jobs where I have to stand for too long. There's office jobs but that's usually an all day job and I don't need full time. My Doctor suggested office work. I'm a bit conflicted at the moment.

to my memory you clean for a living right?

I'm sure there are other cleaning positions with different companies who may (or may not) have better management...

isn't there part time office positions?

But that's the problem, my Doctor has advised against Housekeeping cleaning work as it's not good for arthritis especially what I've got with all the bending and if I continue with it, it will just get worse. I hate that kind of work anyway. Also, my town hasn't got the best work opportunities, it's often a case of get what you can, not what you want. I also need to take a break every 2 hours so it's a tricky situation.

ahhh understandable I feel for you my friend

I hope something comes your way soon and you can find something financially and physically suitable for your situation

I also hope a good opportunity will come your way so that you don't have to sacrifice your health for a job. Have you tried considering some part-time remote/online work? It may open up more opportunities etc.

I’ve worked with a couple of people previously in housekeeping and hospitality..♫work-work-work-work-work/deh say ya haffi/work-work-work-work-work/deh pay ya next ta dirt-dirt-dirt-dirt-dirt/deh no care if ya bacc hurt-hurt-hurt-hurt-hurt/just put in more work-work-work-work-work♫

I hope you can get a remote office or virtual reception type position!

They say if you give the body what it needs, it can repair itself.

Have you tried collagen peptides and/or bone broth regularly? If people can break there bones just to grow taller why is healing them to grow stronger any less possible?

  • My arthritis is age related caused by degenerative changes. It's in my spine so is incurable and permanent. I am doing physio exercises but it only relieves the pain for a little while. I keep active, I walk 6km a day just for exercise. The key is to keep moving. I will have this for the rest of my life but it's only mild at the moment and I'd like it to stay that way. I also have a disc that has slipped forward causing nerve pressure on my sciatic nerve. I prefer to avoid pain killers due to the side effects. I am 55 in a couple of months and it's just due to getting older.

In answer to the other question, I haven't looked into remote work but my town wouldn't have that kind of work anyway as it's not the greatest for work opportunities. I certainly know I cannot do housekeeping work anymore. I am not going to worsen my back for some hotel.

No, I haven't looked into that kind of work yet but I doubt there would be much of that around in my town.

I thought that way before too but surprisingly - When my a previous project ended and the pandemic started, I also was having a hard time finding clients. So I found a part time online work that was basically a compliance data analytics - just looking up data (news of legal cases and confirming if company X is legit and doesn’t have on-going lawsuits, scandals, and criminal activity etc.). The company was in the US, I am in Asia. They provided me training and I made my own schedule but had to do at least 2 reports a month etc.

Some companies will hire you no matter where you are as long as you can do the job online etc. There are many data entry or online research jobs etc. Please do look online - big Australian companies will hire workers online from anywhere as long as the Internet is solid etc.

I hope your condition will only improve na!

I'm not sure if it would pay real well as the job I'm in now pays a good hourly rate, but I will look into it.

    Dang. Sorry to hear that.

Some remote work stuff isn’t always hybrid or local, so maybe looking nationwide could give you better results.
