Fans of SM groups, how do you feel about the whole HYBE/Kakao/SM thing going on?

  • I doubt this will ever happen with both of these 🤡🤡🤡🤡 companys looking to spend billions of dollars to buy sm as they bid against each other on who has more money. They will want a return on investment fast after burning that much cash. They'd likely tell everyone in sm to start a comeback even the random staff will ve turned into kpop idols 🤡🤣

    Taemin's managers about to debut

  • As long as my favs release the same quality music and good solo promotions that SM usually gives them and they are happy with it, Idgf what Hybe is or what they do.

My business is with the idols periodT.

    Kinda my thoughts too, tbh.

I dont care. What will be will be.

If I had a vote though, I'd pick the SM3.0 route. I just think it's a better path forward for them as a business and if it goes well will set them up for long-term sustained success. Underperforming groups would be at risk, but I'm really only a fan of Aespa, RV and Taeyeon so I think they'd be fine, and probably better off in the 3.0 system.

Either way, I hope they continue to have the same sort of ingredients to their upcoming groups. The quirky, slightly experimental nature of their music, the amazing SM bridges as a twist, and the vocal slayage (harmonisations and the balance they have in each group).

The SM 3.0 route? Care to explain, what this 3.0 thing is about?

And yeah, the guts to experiment - even when the outcome is only fifty-fifty successful - the concepts, the vocal harmonies, the many collabs and the amazing dances as seen with NCT are things I can really appreciate from SM groups. Hopefully that'll stay.

I don’t have any preference between the HYBE and Kakao. I just hope whoever takes over the artists will be okay (no disbandments or delaying comebacks).

Yep, same. It's about the artists, after all (at least, for a k-pop fan as I).

it's not over - do you think kakao and CL are gonna give up so easily???

all artists as employees prefer certainty!!!

Whenever I see 'CL' I'm thinking of 2NE1 ^^ But I guess CL is also the name of 1 of the managers at SM?

It's the Kakao route. My understanding of it is Lee Soo Man exits SM completely. SM as an organisation moves to a JYP-esque system where they have multiple divisions within SM and each artist/group is allocated to a division. Each division is responsible for their own production, scheduling, promotion etc, rather than everything from every artist going through LSM and his production team like it currently does.

Artists will be allocated resources dependent on their performance and success, rather than seniority or whatever system they use now. With this system I would expect to see the likes of Kangta & Boa less supported than NCT or Aespa as an example. Artists will also have the ability to buy in to the divisions and it will be the individual divisions decisions to allow self-production and things like that.

There will also be divisions for just pure song production, and for trainees etc

The 3.0 refers to it being the next generation of the organisation, where 1.0 was the start of SM as a company, and 2.0 was maybe the whole idol system under the executive production of LSM. (I don't recall specifics).

  • the co-CEO Chris Lee aka my (LSM) nephew

Ahhh, I see. That one! Thx

Hmm, a modular setup for artist coaching and management. Could work, there's bound to be some differences.

I kinda like how senior groups and artists in SM still get their comebacks and releases as a group and individually, not only the most recent or most popular ones. Might not be the most profitable way to do things, but it is commendable. It's probably why so many SM artists and groups kept extending their contracts.

If that's going to change, well, so be it. A shame, and saddening in some ways, but nothing stays the same forever.
