I hope my faves continue for as long as they enjoy it
[Poll] would you rather have your fave group break up at the peak of their popularity or hang on while their sales and relevance decline?

It is a hard question. I would say that there would be a point where it is not worth anymore
True, if they get sad, frustrated, or it impacts their ability to live their lives, they should pbly stop at that point
-
Breaking up at peak for anything really basically means lasting for a few years and that's it unless you're like Messi level of talent who can stay the best almost forever. Id rather they continue to carry no matter how much their popularity dissipates as they'll be around for fans, they've already cemented themselves as their peak afterall
True, there are actually quite a few western acts that manage to do okay touring for their long-time fans. That's a decent life doing what you enjoy for people who enjoy you

Hang on, I sound like a success stan a lot of the Time here but at the end of the day it’s bp music I came and stay for
-
I'd like to stay with them till the end. so it's okay if they are flopping, it means that they won't be for many people anymore, but they will still there for me and their loyal stans
-
Exactly. You got much older artists that have long since past their prime before many of us were born like Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Elton John etc yet still have loyal fans visit their record setting tours/concerts to this day. I don't see why anyone would want someone they like to stay around 5 or so years then quit. That's just a success a Stan plain and simple.
The only people I think should go out on top are athletes who have achieved the most they can in their sport and end their career as the best.

I personally believe only the artists and musicians know when to leave or retire. It’s up to them since their work relies on their passion and ability to continue to perform/make music etc. So I would respect their decision to stop when they want for whatever reasons.
Having said that, I have seen artist stay in their career when there’s no passion left and it usually doesn’t go well. Just rehashing content or music that doesn’t resonate with fans and audience anymore. It can even get embarrassing and makes me sad that it has become more about staying a celeb or irrelevant than making their art/music.
Case study from JPOP, one of my all time favorite Amuro Namie, announced her retirement in 2018. She’s been the industry as a teen since the 1990’s and had a fantastic career of 3.5 decades. She has a career of high highs and scandals and ups and down but she climbed back to the top when many people thought she couldn’t do it. When she announced her retirement in 2017, she prepared a final tour, greatest album, and went out on top and it was very well done. She left her mark in the industry and she knew when it is time to retire for herself. If you are interested, there is a thread for her in the JPOP section.

What constitutes a personal connection? Do they have to write/ compose/ produce or is interpreting the music through performance enough? Many groups aren't allowed to be creators.
No like… enjoy at least
