japan, korea, and china, had those style of classrooms in variating forms but especially when you look at slice of life anime in a school its basically that style building.

Idk if they are cold war era but they are definitely very prevalent even in old anime like patlabor

i think for western audiences they evoke a horror vibe because that's the media that makes it out of SK, but most locals dont seem to focus on it being scary or anything. Ditto has 2 MV's too so it might change up
