Share you think is best Solo Concert Performance

  • I don't mean vocal performance here. Concert performance, from costume to dance, from the lighting to the meaning of the song, symbolism and storytelling, the performances that you think are a complete stage show. I will give an example.

" 1582 " is a song written and composed by KAT-TUN's member Kamenashi Kazuya. He also carried this song to the stage as a solo performance in the KAT-TUN's Break The Record concert series in 2009. 1582 is also the death date of Oda Nobunaga and Mori Ranmaru, and Kame wrote the song inspired by their relationship. Oda Nobunaga is one of the most famous samurai in Japan because he was the only man who managed to unite all the clans. Mori Ranmaru, on the other hand, was Oda's personal servant and a skilled samurai. It is alleged that there was a sexual relationship between Oda and Mori.

Ranmaru is known for his beauty and unwavering loyalty to his master. He is the only person who understands Nobunaga and is also the only one who can calm him down when he is angry. He also has the ability to organize certain things exactly as his master wishes. It is even written in some places that Ranmaru carried out his order before Oda even ordered it. Ranmaru is so beautiful that people usually fell speechless when sees him. He is often thought to be a woman, and men are said to fall in love with him. But he is actually quite a talented samurai. At that time, when boys reached puberty (12-13), they would cut their hair and adopt the hairstyles of adult samurai. However, Oda asked Ranmaru not to cut his hair, and Ranmaru did not cut it as his master wanted.

When Oda died, only Ranmaru was with him. Oda Nobunaga died by doing Seppuku. Seppuku's witness, and you guessed it, the person who dealt that final sword blow is usually someone the samurai trusted and respected throughout his life. At that time, they are trapped in a temple by the enemy, and after Oda's death, Ranmaru sets the temple on fire, preventing the enemy from capturing Oda's head. As the entire temple burns down, Ranmaru likewise takes his own life without hesitation.

Now let's talk about performance and details.

You will hear some crackling sounds at the beginning of the song. Just like the bushes ignite when trying to start a fire... You will also hear some breathing, moaning sounds in the middle and end of the song. These are clearly two male voices, one of which is not Kame's. Before the performance starts, people with swords are running around the stage as if they are preparing to attack. As Kame begins to sing, he lands right in the middle of these swords in a meaningful way. In addition, a temple image appears on the ceiling, albeit for a short time. This is the original view of the temple where Oda and Ranmaru were attacked. Ranmaru is the one who set the temple on fire, and at one point in the performance Kame rises into the air with flares in his hand, spinning around him, spewing fire.

It is known that Ranmaru does not cut his hair, and if Kame had played two different people in his performance, i.e. Oda in the second half, he would have removed the clip on his hair and then pulled it up from his forehead and gathered it up, revealing his face. However, he emphasized their length by shaking his hair after removing that clip. While he is very feminine in the first half of the song, the fact that he is more masculine after he draws the sword is also a reference to Ranmaru's personality. Because Ranmaru is not only an elegant servant, but also a very, very good samurai. Being the closest person to his master, he was very well educated in many branches. He is someone who can protect Oda with his life when necessary. Kame tried to handle both the feminine and masculine features of Ranmaru in his performance.

Notice that even though he is dressed like a woman, Kame has men's clothes under his clothes, and in the second half of the song, he opens one shoulder and half of his chest, emphasizing that he is a man. This is also a reference to Ranmaru being mistaken for a woman but actually being a man. In the first half of the song, Kame wears a red lipstick on his lower lip, as if emphasizing that he is not a geisha or woman, but the lipstick overflows from his lips to his chin, like blood flowing from his mouth. Here, while referring to Ranmaru's beauty, it also refers to his death. Because the samurai who made seppuku did not bleed, because the second samurai cut off his head in a very sudden and single move, giving a clean death. However, Ranmaru was only able to end his life by stabbing his own sword in his stomach because he had no one beside him but Oda's corpse. Therefore, no one was able to cut off his head.

At the end of the song, Kame appears with two long papers with writings on them. Before seppuku, samurai used to leave note. They are called "Death Poems". Notice when he takes off, he is holding two poems in his hand and first releases one, then descends to the stage and kisses it before releasing the poem he has wrapped around his waist. It is obviously a reference to Oda's death first and then to the death of Ranmaru, who joins him. But Ranmaru's is stained with blood because his death is incomplete. For this reason, it was claimed that Kame performed a performance resembling a water purification ritual after the song.

If you are patient enough to read such a long essay, you deserve to watch the performance lol Actually, it is a 12-minute performance in total with the acrobatic show at the beginning and the water ritual at the end, but I was able to find a part of 7 minutes because it was quite old. This performance has become iconic among Jpop solos. Now, I want you to share if there is such a concert performance in Kpop solos, from symbolism to clothes, from decor to song. :starryeyes-pepe:
