Just so if BTS lose the main categories with their own artists, there will be a safety net to bounce back from. 
I can't say I'm shocked. BTS has been a thorn in many sides for the past five years and some in the industry can't accept that if given an even playing field BTS would outperform the competition here in the states. So I wonder, is this how Latin pop fans felt like? Who was the catalyst for the Latin pop categories like BTS is for kpop?

I think it's partially xenophobia but it's also just an anti-kpop culture thing. To most of the US general public, Kpop is lame as hell. Kpop fans also are organized and vote like no one else.
Shows don't want these groups that are perceived as "uncool" to win their fan-voted awards because their fans go so hard.

I don't even bother voting there tbh.
Maybe having another group win that will make it more of a joke than it's already is.

Youre more profitable when its divided because then theres more engagement and more of s chance of you getting hooked to watch

They don't want that image. They don't want every AMA # to be kpop fanwars -- it's a bad look for the show.

this is going to be the new top social catagory like bbmas. They only want the social media engagements using kpop fans.
