Am I the only one who don't get all this obsession with numbers

  • I don't know either...numbers and math are a foreign language to me lol.

Of course we all wanna see our faves breaking their own records, or making waves, like getting on billboard, winning on music shows etc. But really there's more to life then floppin around random numbers just to brag about something. Like, it's blatantly obvious which groups are known/popular/and getting recognized, we don't need to see their numbers to validate this.

I just want my faves, and nugu's to continue selling more than the last comeback, it means they are getting more fans possibly and making great music. As long as things are moving up and not down, then i have hope they won't disband or fall off the radar, unless their company sucks.

There's so many good nugu groups out there, ex. dkz that people overlook or don't even wanna look at because they are so drowned out by the popular groups. Stop obsessing over numbers start looking at music.

  • honestly idk but sometimes I feel like people focus more on numbers than the song itself

idk it is not even about any fandom in particular it is just the discussion in general about this? I dont get it, it is kinda boring tracking numbers all the time for KPOP

My fav part is when people openly admit they don't like a song or an album and still brag about its numbers

Like people, if sth you don't like does well it means there will be more of it yikes

  • idk I can only speak about my fandom, but most of our frustration and talks about album issues is because it legitimately feels like the company is either sabotaging them or just grossly incompetent.

They changed released dates in some countries and then changed them back but because of Target's system orders were at risk of getting cancelled because the release date changed twice. They have delayed shipments to stores because they left a member out of a photo. They're tweeting out messages to go out and buy the album, but there are no albums to buy. They set up some promotion with independent record stores, but no one at the stores knew anything about it. It's been a mess when all we want to do is do the same or better for them.

Most of us don't care about breaking anyone's record. We just want the best for them.

I'm confused where you got that there are delayed shipments, especially because of the member photo when SM's message said the digipacks continue to sell which were ready to be send while the correct the other ones but they are re-sending the booklet to the ones which brought, digipacks sell based on hanteo, already over 200k out of 600k total sales and the album isn't out of stock anywhere being ktown4u or target (including the digipacks)

thats true lmaooo also whats the point braggin about something that is not even liked I dont see the logic ???? it is like oh you know I have not read this manga but it sells so much lemme brag about it ?? :huuh:;(

  • I get being happy your faves got an achievement like number 1 or sold a record number but holy fuck tracking evey minute charts, tracking what other rivals are doing, using stats to beef with others etc. You guys put the fanatic in fan lol.

Korean and Japanese fans are both being told there are shipment delays due to printing issues.

  • I agree that this fascination with numbers is a little strange. On the one hand, we find on the forum a very detailed approach to the music (The bridge of this song is better than this one, this note there or this sound there recalls that ...) and on the other an obsession for the number of sales, streams, views as if they were company shareholders.

From a personal point of view, the figures do not interest me as long as they are sufficient for the company not to let go of the group. My fav group is doing good enough numbers to be able to continue and progress, come up with new things artistically speaking. In music, the artistic side will always interest me more than the business. (But they are very likely to explode in sales also for the next one and I will not sulk that they are recognized at their true value).

More than fans of numbers, what surprises me on the forum is the multiplication of topics on the same things (almost) as if people were talking on their own without exchanging too much, discussing

  • I like this comparison of Kpop with sports. it makes me understand the point of view of some on the numbers. It's between business, music and competition. Really interesting

Sales are also linked to promotional strength, as a sports club with more financial means will have the capacity to go further. It is also possible for a smaller one, but it requires more luck and talent

  • The whole of Kpop and Korean society is based around competition, winning, being better than others, getting recognized, social status and prestige.

What other music industry in the world has six, count em SIX music competition and award shows every week? And this isnt even counting other shows like Masked Singer, Immortal, etc. We all make fun of music shows but it seems like they're a very big deal to most labels and idols. They represent "proof" that the GP and fans love them enough to vote for them, buy their albums, etc.

Plus Korean charting is so much more fun to track than boring local charts like Billboard that only update weekly. We've got Bugs, Melon, Genie, Vibe, Flo, Gaon and Hanteo, several of which update hourly. :danceb:

  • Oh. I understand the obsesion with numbers, i know from where that come from. This Kpop fans are dumb, inmature and insecure people with poor personality. All this energy waste in something so meaningless. What a pathetic spectacle. :pepe-shame:

  • Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

    you not the only one.

my todays activity on akp had been "SNSD Dancing Queen Thread", "Laboum or Fly to the Sky", "What Choreo you have learned" and "Loona members that had fun on tour".

Oh, but i defended nmixx of accusation that they must feel bad because they only sold 250k albums.

Dont know kpop seems off or its just akp like people just dont want to have fun anymore. X/

  • I'll try to give you an answer to the best of my ability

numbers in a vaccum don't mean a damn thing but the success of a group ultimately depends on $$$

if a group doesn't make money it's going to fail and disband or be left in mediocrity

this is especially more so for lesser known groups and nugu groups

and since we never know how much $$$ a group brings in we sometimes judge that based on the sales and numbers

another reason is numbers represent an objective standard compared to our own personal like or dislike of a song/group etc etc - if we are supporting a group then in addition to the music we also want to know that our favs are doing well and numbers represent that

obviously there are those that use numbers and stuff for nefarious purposes and success stans but like most things numbers in a vacuum are just that - numbers - it doesn't mean anything unless one uses it for some purpose...
