their members are not seen as visual icons or trendsetters, although being pretty surely helps

yeah they have one chance and if they go in the same direction with the group's sound then there is a possibility
i'd love it if they did upbeat pop songs. they don't have to go back to their original sound or more cute concept to do that

Twice concept is not as simple as just cute or mature. As cliche as it sounds, Twice concept is Twice.
You have groups that do similar concept before like Gfriend, Oh My Girl (exception to Non Stop era) etc without the same success. There's definitely more to Twices concept than that and whatever it is, Twice does it well.
People want to use one or two less successful comeback as example of failure in proof of concept but one thing most groups don't have is the amount of releases Twice has.
Its just statistics, you release enough sounds, you're bound to have some releases that doesn't hit with the audience but Twice can afford to try different things whereas groups who don't come back as often would lose traction over a failed comeback if the song did not work. They're force to play it safe
Twice next concept will be, with lack of better words, Twice.

Exactly. Scientist was as poppy, light, and fun as it gets, just a legendary retro song, and the GP paid it absolute dust, one of the biggest travesties in all of Kpop tbh.

Ny doing good (like I pointed out before) it's bc it's smths new bc jyp himself oversatured the market with twice content. A solo or subunit it's smths different
