The difference between Aespa and Blackpink

    It's obvious to anyone by now SM is trying so hard to make Aespa the new blackpink, but no matter how hard SM tries to force it, you can feel the difference in popularity between them.


    Blackpink was more than just album sales and it wasn't Coachella that made them big in the west.


    Blackpink all had individual brand deals and sponsorship from expensive designers and companies.

    Blackpink has multiple MVs with views of over a billion (even more than BTS who is THE top Kpop group)

    A single member (Jisoo, the least popular globally) of Blackpink has over 57 million followers while Lisa has over 70 million. And, I hate to keep mentioning BTS, but since BTS are the most popular Kpop group, I am just using them as a point of reference, because Blackpink members have even more followers than them.

    Then there are Blackpink's streams. It goes without saying that they far surpass Aespa's.


    But I can already see all the media play SM already has lined up for when Aespa drops their album and how Blackpink will definitely be dragged into their narrative.

    Yeah because they just started + pandemic + completely different landscape. When BP debuted, only Twice was there but Aespa went up against BP, Twice, RV, ITZY then IVE, Lesserafirm, G-idle, NMIXX, STAYC, Kepler, and the rest.


    I don't think there's going to be a blowout hit like BPs debut and rise for a while. Also they're very different. BP was always individually promotion based, like the fashion brands you're talking about.


    Coachella isn't to make "them big in the west" but to attract a niche genre of music to a certain group of people. Hyperpop is popular overseas, Sophie gave tons of wacky beats that Aespa structures follow too. Remember, it's a festival for music lovers so they got invited through an org. that saw that.


    Aespa will never be the type of mainstream maybe only BTS can be now, but they can easily conquer a wacky US-fandom kinda like Rina Sawayama for the pop girlies.


    BP got invited for a completely different reason, which was to make them visible to nonfans.


    Aespa aren't following BP besides being a gg with 4 members + some fashion deals but they're trying to emulate TVXQ, who used this niche audience to break into Japan + then overseas.

    They retweeted an article (Forbes afaik) about aespa and within that article there was a sentence that said FANS compared the two BUT mentioned aespa and BP had different concepts.

    Except I never said YG has never done media play.


    As for who's way too pressed, I could say the same thing about a lot of people in this thread considering the reaction to simply pointing out the fact that album sales is not enough to catch up to blackpink.

    Everyone knowns YG used to mediaplay and it was also blinks who thrashed YG and still do unlike u guys. SM is obsessed with BP.
