II. Background
Following the release of "My Life" in January 2022, Mark had two songs prepared to release; "lonely" and "save me". He asked his Twitter followers on March 15 which he should release first. The next day, he decided he wanted to release both, and would start with "lonely". He released some image teasers, and later released the song and visualizer video on March 24.
